OH MY GULAY! NGAYONG JULY

MGA NANAY AT TATAY!

🥦 OH MY GULAY! NGAYONG JULY 🥕🌽

“NAY, ayoko ng gulay…” 😩

Every bite is a small win. 💚

Baka ang susunod na marinig mo ay…

“NAY… pwede pa pong dagdag na broccoli?” 😄

Bridging Compassion and Excellence: Pediatric Palliative Care Benchmarking Between NCH and PCMC

A meaningful day of collaboration and shared learning was held on March 25, 2026, as the National Children’s Hospital (NCH)—the first hospital in the country to establish a structured and organized Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) Center, with the advocacy of helping and supporting the development of Pediatric Palliative Care in the Philippines through sharing its best practices—welcomed the Philippine Children’s Medical Center, headed by Dr. Canileure Caballes-Dayrit (Nephrologist) for a Benchmarking Activity in PPC, strengthening partnerships in delivering compassionate, holistic care for children and their families.

The program opened with Welcome Remarks from Dr. Philip A. Morales, Medical Center Chief, followed by the checking in of participants and a presentation on the background of Pediatric Palliative Care and the milestones of NCH, where Dr. Rhea Angelica Jayma chaired the establishment of PPC, thoughtfully shared by Dr. Adelina Uyvico, PPC Specialist in charge of Training & Research.

The benchmarking activity was facilitated by Dr. Maria Liza Naranjo, PPC Coordinator for Training and Research, ensuring a smooth and engaging exchange.

An insightful multidisciplinary panel discussion featured Dr. Leicel Goyena, PPC Specialist in charge of Clinical Service, Sheena Robenta (PPC Social Worker), and Ma. Maria Socorro Vargas (PPC Nurse), highlighting lived experiences, challenges, and best practices, followed by an interactive Question and Answer session.

The visit continued with a hospital tour led by Dr. Lannie Fofue, PPC Specialist in charge of Administrative & Logistics, together with Neil Patrick Navarro (PPC Social Worker), Ashley Cianna Paulino (PPC Nurse), and Dr. Yasmin Sulit (Pediatric Anesthesiologist), where participants observed firsthand the processes and best practices of PPC at NCH.

The activity concluded with a feedback evaluation and analysis facilitated by Dr. Maria Liza Naranjo.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our colleagues from the PCMC for their visit and meaningful exchange. Together, we continue to strengthen PPC services for the children and families we serve.

PhilHealth Accreditation Team Visits National Children’s Hospital Pediatric Palliative Care Center for Standards Development of Palliative and Hospice Package

The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) Accreditation Team, led by Dr. Marc Anthony Cepeda of the Standards and Management Department, conducted an on-site visit at the Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) Center of the National Children's Hospital (NCH) on March 23, 2025, as part of its ongoing initiative to develop standardized benefit packages for Palliative and Hospice Care for both pediatric and adult patients in the Philippines.

The activity aimed to gather essential inputs for the formulation of comprehensive standards that will guide the delivery of palliative and hospice services nationwide, ensuring quality, equity, and continuity of care across all age groups.

The team was warmly welcomed by Dr. Philip A. Morales, Medical Center Chief II, who expressed appreciation for PhilHealth’s efforts in strengthening institutional capacities and advancing palliative care services.

The PPC Center was represented by Dr. Adelina Uyvico (PPC Specialist), Dr. Lannie Fofue (PPC Specialist), Maria Socorro Vargas (PPC Nurse), and Mr. Neil Patrick Navarro (PPC Social Worker). Together, they presented the center’s service delivery framework and operational systems, highlighting its integrated and multidisciplinary approach to care.

A comprehensive presentation was conducted covering the center’s process flow, clinical and supportive services, manpower structure, medication and supply management, equipment availability, facility arrangements, and documentation systems. The center also showcased its continuum of care through Inpatient, Outpatient, Home Care, and Telemedicine Services, demonstrating an accessible and coordinated model of care for patients and families.

Following the presentation, an interactive question-and-answer session was held, allowing PhilHealth accreditors to clarify operational processes, validate practices, and engage in meaningful discussions to support the development of standardized palliative and hospice care packages.

A facility tour was likewise conducted, providing the accreditation team with firsthand exposure to the actual care environment and service delivery areas, further enriching their understanding of PPC operations.

This visit underscores the shared commitment of PhilHealth and the NCH to advance the development of standardized, equitable, and compassionate palliative and hospice care packages for both children and adults, anchored on quality care, accessibility, and dignity for all patients and their families.

With hearts full of gratitude, we joyfully share a beautiful milestone

Last March 18, 2026, the Rainbow Room at the National Children’s Hospital was officially opened, marking the first of its kind in the Philippines. This special space was thoughtfully created to bring comfort, dignity, and love to children and families during life’s most meaningful moments.

We were deeply honored to celebrate this occasion with approximately 100 attendees from various health sectors and palliative care communities, including the Office of the Mayor and Vice Mayor, the Philippine Cancer Center, the Philippine Society of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Department of Health, the Kythe Foundation, and the Three Lights Foundation.

This milestone was made possible by the support of the hospital's Centers and Departments working together. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Three Lights Foundation for generously sponsoring the renovation of the Rainbow Room, and to our international partners—Canuck Place and Two Worlds Cancer Collaboration—for their invaluable support and shared vision.

The Rainbow Room is more than just a place—it is a promise of compassionate care, a space for connection, and a sanctuary where families can create meaningful memories together.

Thank you for being part of this shared journey of hope, compassion, and healing.
