In cervical cancer treatment, precision matters.

Our recent work on ultrasound-guided brachytherapy highlights how ultrasound can achieve strong geometric and dosimetric accuracy when compared with MRI and CT in image-guided brachytherapy for cervical cancer.

For many low- and middle-income countries, access to MRI-based brachytherapy remains a challenge. Ultrasound offers a more accessible, practical, and cost-effective imaging option that may help expand high-quality cervical cancer care to more patients, with acceptable precision.

This is especially relevant in resource-limited settings such as the Philippines.

Happy to share that our team from UST Hospital recently published a technical note in Brachytherapy on the use of ultrasound in cervical cancer brachytherapy planning.

In many developing countries, access to CT or MRI-guided brachytherapy can still be limited. This work explores how portable ultrasound may help improve the safety and precision of treatment while making image guidance more accessible in real-world practice.

In our illustrative case, ultrasound guidance helped optimize dose delivery to the tumor while reducing radiation exposure to nearby organs such as the bladder and re**um.

I’ve always believed that meaningful innovation in cancer care does not always mean the most expensive technology — sometimes it means finding practical ways to deliver better treatment to more patients.

A meaningful milestone for our team—successfully performing the first prostate brachytherapy procedure at Manila Doctors Hospital.

This technique allows us to deliver very high doses of radiation directly to the prostate, maximizing tumor control while minimizing side effects.

In the right patients, it’s one of the most precise and effective treatment options available today.

Had the privilege of speaking at the PROS Annual Conference last Saturday on Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) for inoperable kidney cancers.

For patients who are not surgical candidates—particularly those with significant comorbidities or at high risk for chronic kidney disease (CKD)—management can be challenging. Growing clinical evidence shows that SBRT provides excellent local tumor control with a favorable safety profile, offering a non-invasive treatment option for carefully selected patients.

By delivering highly precise, ablative doses of radiation over only a few treatments, SBRT allows effective tumor control while preserving surrounding kidney function.

As the body of evidence continues to expand, SBRT is emerging as a strong treatment option for patients with inoperable renal tumors.
