October 29, 2025 | National Validation for RED Orchid Award
The Action on Smoking on Health Philippines (National Validators), in coordination with the Ministry of Health–BARMM and the Integrated Provincial Health Office–Maguindanao, conducted the RED Orchid Award Validation at Iranon District Hospital.
The RED Orchid Award is the Department of Health’s prestigious recognition program that honors government offices, hospitals, and local government units demonstrating excellence in implementing and sustaining comprehensive to***co control initiatives. The program aligns with the World Health Organization’s MPOWER strategies, which serve as a global framework for reducing to***co use and protecting public health.
Evaluators from the DOH Central Office, MOH-BARMM, and IPHO-Maguindanao evaluated the hospital's adherence to the requirements of a to***co-free environment during the validation visit. The assessment covered several key areas, including: application of to***co control regulations; campaigns for advocacy and health promotion; enforcement of smoking prohibitions within hospital premises; and availability of smoking cessation clinic for staff and patients.
Present during the validation were Catalino O. Molina Jr., RN, MAN, MPA,- Administrative Officer V, Dr. Bai Saada Bailan, Reham Dimaren, RN, MAN – Chief Nurse, Omaira Macararab, RN, MAN – Nursing Supervisor, smoking cessation coordinators Nashiv Alon, RN, MPA and Amira Sultana, RN, and Isnaira Inding, RN – HEPO, with the full support of Dr. Harris D. Macapeges, Chief of Hospital.
