Warts are small, benign growth caused by a viral infection on mucous membrane. The virus infects the surface layer.The viruses that cause warts are members of human papilloma virus ( HPV) family. Warts are not cancerous .Warts are contagious from person to person and from area of the body to another area on the same person.
Warts are a problem for 7 -10% of the population .There are a close to 60 types of HPV that cause wart each preferring a specific location .Most can be active anywhere in the body. The virus enters the skin and produces new warts after an incubation period of one to eight months.Warts are usually skin colored and feel rough to touch.
Electrocautery is a way to remove a wart using heat from electricity.The electricity is used to heat the needle put on the wart. In one study , electrocautery was about 82% effective in removing warts and stoppinh them from coming back 6 months after treatment
