As part of its continuing efforts to enhance Avian Influenza (AI) awareness and preparedness nationwide, the Avian Influenza Protection Program (AIPP) successfully brought its "Catch the Facts, Not the Flu" Information Caravan to the province of La Union last August 27, 2026. Serving as the fifth and penultimate leg of the caravan for 2026, the activity aimed to promote disease awareness, encourage effective biosecurity practices, and foster collaboration among key stakeholders in the local livestock and poultry sector.
Dr. Ma. Remedios Pajatin, Chief of the Regulatory Division of DA-RFO 1, delivered the opening message, emphasizing the critical importance of multi-sectoral cooperation and proactive measures in keeping the region protected against bird flu.
Rights and efforts were strengthened through the participation of various farm groups, commercial operators, and backyard poultry raisers, alongside key local government units including LGU Sudipen, LGU San Fernando, LGU Bacnotan, and LGU Bagulin. Also present to lend their technical support were representatives from the City Veterinary Office (CVO) and the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVET) of San Fernando.
Throughout the event, participants engaged in comprehensive discussions on national and regional Avian Influenza updates, vaccination protocols, standard biosecurity measures, regulatory guidelines for local avian shipment, and the various BAI Livestock Distribution Programs.
