New study reveals that six months of daily omega-3 supplementation, at a dose of 2 grams per day, can significantly improve menstrual cycle regularity in women with polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal disorder that often leads to irregular periods, ovarian dysfunction, and metabolic disturbances, affecting both reproductive and overall health.
Omega-3 fatty acids are renowned for their anti-inflammatory effects and ability to support hormonal balance. In the study, women with PCOS who followed the supplementation protocol experienced more consistent menstrual cycles, indicating improved regulation of ovarian hormones and better endocrine function. Additionally, researchers noted potential benefits in reducing inflammation and enhancing metabolic markers, which are commonly disrupted in PCOS.
Menstrual regularity is an important marker of reproductive health, fertility, and long-term wellbeing. By helping restore more predictable cycles, omega-3 supplementation may also reduce complications such as insulin resistance, cardiovascular risk, and infertility associated with PCOS.
Although additional large-scale trials are needed to confirm these results and fine-tune optimal dosage, the study highlights omega-3s as a promising, natural adjunct therapy for women managing PCOS. Incorporating omega-3-rich foods like fatty fish or high-quality supplements into daily routines could be a simple and effective strategy to support hormonal balance and reproductive health
