Happy Earth Month!

At Pachamama Alliance, we see every month as Earth Month... but April is a special time to unite for the planet! đź’š

For 30 years, Pachamama Alliance has worked hand in hand with Indigenous partners across the Amazon to defend territories and help build a future where forests and the people who protect them can thrive.

Every day, the Earth sustains us—the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the systems that make life possible. And every day, the Amazon rainforest and the Indigenous communities who have stewarded it for generations face threats from deforestation, oil drilling, and mining.

Monthly giving is one of the most powerful ways to make an impact. It provides the steady, reliable support needed to protect both people and planet—every day.

Become a monthly donor this April and join a global community committed to investing in the Earth.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments of wildlife conservation, a man was seen consoling the last northern white rhino in its final moments. The rhino, a symbol of an entire species’ extinction, was gently laid to rest with a tenderness that struck a deep chord with onlookers. This image encapsulates the raw emotion tied to the irreversible loss of biodiversity.

The northern white rhino’s extinction is a stark reminder of how human activities and neglect have led to the downfall of numerous species. Despite efforts to save them, the northern white rhino was unable to survive the pressures of poaching and habitat destruction. As the world watched this final moment, it served as a call to action for conservationists everywhere.

The emotional bond between the caretaker and the animal was evident. In its final moments, the rhino was not just a scientific subject but a living being who had touched the hearts of those who cared for it. The image of the man resting his head on the rhino’s forehead is a poignant symbol of the last chance humanity had to save it.

As we face the realities of extinction, this moment reminds us that every loss is not just a statistic—it’s a life, a species, a future that was never realized. The extinction of the northern white rhino is a tragic chapter in the story of conservation, but it is also a wake-up call for the world.

The loss of this majestic creature is a reminder that we are all connected to the natural world. We must do everything in our power to ensure that other species don’t face the same fate. 🌍💔

A remarkable discovery in Masungi Georeserve has drawn national attention after conservationists confirmed the presence of rare prehistoric plants that date back to a time long before dinosaurs walked the Earth. These plants, called cycads, are among the oldest seed-bearing plants known and have survived mass extinctions and huge climate shifts for more than 200 million years. Their presence in Rizal highlights the Philippines’ rich biodiversity and the importance of protecting sites like Masungi.

One species, Cycas riuminiana, is found only in Luzon and grows in the limestone landscapes and forested areas of the georeserve. Conservationists say these plants are living witnesses to Earth’s deep history and offer clues about ancient ecosystems that once shaped the planet.

Their survival today shows why threatened habitats must be protected from development, mining, and deforestation. As these Jurassic-era plants continue to grow quietly in Baras, they remind us of the ancient natural heritage the Philippines is responsible for preserving.
