Last week, we welcomed two very special little fightersโtwins whose journey began with a diagnosis that brought many uncertainties and challenges.
At ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐ค๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ ๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ฒ, the twins were diagnosed with ๐๐ฐ๐ข๐ง-๐ญ๐จ-๐๐ฐ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฒ๐ง๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐ (๐๐๐๐). One twin, the ๐๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐ง, was not growing well and had very little to almost no amniotic fluid. Meanwhile, the other, the ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ฉ๐ข๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ข๐ง, was receiving an excessive amount of blood, resulting in signs of overcirculation and accelerated growth.
Their mom, who is from ๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, had to travel to our branch in ๐บ๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ for evaluation and monitoring. After our initial consultation, she was referred to ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ, where she underwent ๐๐๐ญ๐จ๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ข๐ ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ ๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ญ๐จ๐๐จ๐๐ ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง just several days laterโa procedure performed to interrupt the abnormal connecting blood vessels between the twinsโ placentas.
Following the procedure, the family continued their weekly journey back to Zambales for close monitoring.
Thankfully, the babies gradually showed ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐. We were given almost ๐ญ๐ฐ๐จ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก๐ฌโtwo months for the babies to grow, for their condition to stabilize, and for the medical team and family to prepare for their eventual ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฆ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐ค๐ฌ.
And last week, that day finally came. ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป
Both babies are now stable and continuing their journey in the neonatal unit. Their story is a reminder of how challenging high-risk pregnancies can be, but also of what can be achieved through early diagnosis, timely intervention, close monitoring, and the strength of a family that never gave up.
