TANJAY CITY NUTRITION COUNCIL STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH DEPED FOR SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAMS
Tanjay City Nutrition Council paid a courtesy visit and coordination meeting with the Tanjay City Division Office to discuss the feedback on the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) results concerning school children and to align preparations for the opening of classes on June 8, 2026 and the upcoming Nutrition Month Celebration.
During the meeting, the City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO) Ms. Stephanie R. Reyes underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration between School Nutrition Coordinators and Barangay Nutrition and Health Workers in conducting weight and height assessments among learners. This initiative aims to ensure accurate and timely monitoring of the nutritional status of school children, facilitate data-driven interventions, and provide additional support to educators in addressing nutrition-related concerns within their respective schools.
The discussion likewise highlighted the supplemental feeding initiatives spearheaded by Division Nurse Ms. Maria Xyza Isabel G. Tabaloc, particularly the implementation of hot lunch programs for wasted and severely wasted learners. Strategies and future interventions were explored to further improve the nutritional well-being of vulnerable school children.
The meeting also opened opportunities for collaboration with the City Agriculture Office (CAO) through the provision of seeds and planting materials to schools in support of the GPP Program, promoting food security, healthy eating habits, and sustainable school gardening practices.
Furthermore, Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Estela B. Susvilla emphasized the importance of sustained Local Government Unit support in nutrition-related programs, particularly in ensuring the availability and efficient distribution of micronutrient supplements such as Vitamin A. She highlighted the need for logistical assistance to strengthen ongoing efforts in addressing malnutrition and improving the health outcomes of school children.
This collaborative engagement reflects the shared commitment of the Tanjay City Nutrition Council, the Department of Education, and partner agencies in fostering a healthier, more nourished, and productive learning environment for every Tanjayanon learner through strengthened partnerships and coordinated nutrition interventions.
Our heartfelt gratitude to City Mayor/CNC Chairman Mayor Jose "Pepe" T. Orlino for his unwavering support and commitment to promoting good nutrition among school children. Guided by his belief that a well-nourished child is a step closer to a brighter future, nutrition remains a priority of the City Government, with the strong support of the 10th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tanjay City.🙏🏻🤍
