Milk Starts Long Before the Milking Stand

Many people think milk production begins after kidding. It doesn't.

It begins months—even years—earlier.
And sometimes, it begins with a buck you never milked.

A breeding program must look beyond the individual animal and consider the predictive transferability of desirable traits from one generation to the next—whether those genes come through the buck or the doe.

Milk production is influenced by:

After nearly two decades with Nubians, one lesson has become clear: The more you learn, the more you realize there is still MORE to learn.

Rephrasing it another way, the more you think you know about dairy and breeding them, the more you realize there is so much more you do not know.

Great breeders ask questions.

They visit other farms.

They read. They listen. They remain curious.

The moment you think you've learned everything is the moment your herd stops improving.

A pedigree isn't a price tag. It's a roadmap

The debate among Philippine goatraisers about registration, whether ADGA for dairy goats or ABGA for Boer raisers misses the more important question — do you know the story behind the animal you're raising?

We started registering Philippines-bred ADGA Nubians back in 2009. Not to create an exclusive club. Not to justify a higher price. But because we wanted a blueprint. A record. A way to track whether what we were building — generation by generation — was actually moving toward world-class milk production and functional type.

Think of it this way. When you buy a used car, you want the service record. The mileage. The ownership history. A registration is exactly that — a service record for your animal's genetics.

And here's a more personal analogy. Hindi mo ba gusto malaman kung sino ang pamilya ng liligawan mo? Anong natapos niya? Ano ang trabaho ng magulang, lolo't lola? That curiosity — that due diligence about lineage — is exactly what a pedigree gives you in your herd.

Not all of our Nubians are registered. Some we chose not to register. But every animal in our program carries lineage we can trace — because our foundation stock came from serious US imports, and that genetic potential doesn't disappear without a paper.

Registered or not — that's the herd owners call. You are the master of your herd.

But at minimum, know your animals. Know their parents. Know how their family produces. Know what you're building toward.

That knowledge is the real asset. The certificate is just proof that someone wrote it down.

A pedigree is much more than a family tree.

Every name represents years—sometimes decades—of careful breeding decisions.

Behind every performing goat is a breeder who made difficult choices: which animals to keep, which to cull, and which bloodlines to preserve.

When you read a pedigree, you're reading the history of a breeding program. Learn the breeding patterns and move the breed forward from there.
