4 Ways To Effectively Help The Underprivileged Students Near You:
Living in Pakistan, almost every one of us have noticed young children going to government schools present in our communities. Statistically, almost a third of the total children studying in these schools come from underprivileged families. Hence, a group of five Psychology students of IIUI, aimed to find out the problems and struggles that these mentioned students face in their educational lives. We conducted interview sessions with 8 students and gained insight on their issues.
We believe that every single child in Pakistan, whether rich or poor, deserves the right to proper educational guide to help them overcome any difficulties that lie in their way. In encouraging you all to participate alongside us, and help improve the lives of these young student (and bring a smile on their adorable faces!), we have compiled a list of four, small ways in which you can be of use:
1-Talk to them!
It is as simple as reaching out and holding a conversation with the students or their families to give them hope that we will look out for them. Either visit them in their schools and homes, invite them to your house or even have a little chat while out on the street. Tell them your intentions to help out right away or talk to them frequently so they can slowly open up to you.
2-Keep your eyes and hearts open!
While you work on gaining their trust, observe and research what supplies or help you could provide the children with. Notice if their uniforms, shoes or schoolbags look old then inform them that you would like to buy them new ones. Notice if the child seems disinterested or struggles in studying then help by motivating them verbally or offering help to provide free tuitions.
3-Do not discard school supplies!
We often discard our previous notebooks, worksheets and school books. Instead of selling or throwing away all that useful knowledge, we can pass on all the items to these students who often get left behind in their studies.
4-Spread awareness!
Help out these students in every community you can reach. Even if many students do not allow you to help them, impart some brief knowledge (like good hygiene benefits), inspire them to continue studying or just leave them with a feeling of hopefulness in their hearts through your conversations.
