UPT (Urine Pregnancy Test) Accuracy Guide
LMP = Last Menstrual Period
A urine pregnancy test (UPT) works by detecting the pregnancy hormone hCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) in urine.
When Is a UPT Reliable?
✅ After 28 days from LMP
Many pregnancies can be detected.
Accuracy is generally good if ovulation occurred on time.
✅ After a Missed Period (30–35 Days from LMP)
UPT accuracy is usually over 99% when used correctly.
A negative result at this stage makes pregnancy less likely, but repeat testing may be needed if symptoms persist.
✅ After 5–6 Weeks from LMP
Most pregnancies are detectable by UPT.
False-negative results become uncommon.
Tips for Best Accuracy
✔ Use first morning urine whenever possible.
✔ Follow the test instructions carefully.
✔ Check the expiry date before use.
✔ Avoid excessive fluid intake before testing.
Important Note
A negative UPT does not always completely rule out pregnancy, especially if:
Ovulation occurred later than expected.
Testing was performed too early.
The urine sample was diluted.
If your period is delayed and symptoms continue, repeat the test after 48–72 hours or consult a gynecologist.
