Happy Retirement Mr. Abdullah Khan

Uncle Abdullah Khan a resident of Misgar Gojal Hunza turned 60 today and completed his services as a government employee working as a Senior Medical Technician in Health Department Gilgit-Baltistan for the last 40 years.

Born in 1962 in Misgar the last valley of Pakistan bordering China, he grew up in the mountains of Hunza and after his basic education he started his basic medical education with training at DHQ Gilgit and then started performing his duties as Junior Medical Technician at District Headquarter Hospital Gilgit now known as PHQ. After serving in Gilgit for 8 years he was posted to Civil Dispensary Passu for 3 years and then he moved to Misgar Gojal serving his own people till today almost for a span of 29 years.

Despite the lack of basic facilities he tried his best to manage Medical emergencies, accidents, medico legal cases and all sorts of medical problems including mother and child health problems in a remote area with minimum facilities. He supported his family members in getting quality education and at present they are serving the area in their best capacities. He has served voluntarily in various institutions of AKDN and village organisations in order to help his own people for a better life. He also runs his own business at sost Gojal and is known to be a humble entrepreneur.

The contributions he made cannot be described in words and were evident from today's emotional moments when all of his villagers gathered at Misgar to welcome him on his day of retirement. His colleagues and employees of Health Department Hunza paid tributes to his services he rendered to the people of Hunza and Misgar in particular.

Wishing him a happy retirement life and good health here after.

Had an amazing day with the brilliant students of Al-Amyn Model School Gulmit Gojal Hunza.
Thanks to the principal and the School management for their invitation.
Students asked me questions which confused them while doing research such as local methods of treatment in medical emergencies whether such methods are useful or valid in medical science and which practices shall be discontinued. The Rescuers of the Department of 1122 had already demonstrated the life saving skills and basics of First Aid to the students already few days back.

The Aga Khan University Examination Board is training the students of the upcoming generation in developing them in vital areas of life such as how to rescue one's life and how to deal Medical emergencies.

The Pakistan Life Savers Programme - PLSP is a new initiative in the country to train students and the youth so that they can save people from Medical Emergencies such as Heat Stroke, Burn, Limb Bleeding and Cardiac Arrest. The AKUEB and PLSP are contributing in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

AKUEB is promoting the PLSP mandate and the middle school students of Al-Amyn Model School are following the process with great interest, going into community, carrying out research and learning it the real way.

Hunza Eye Care and Optical Centre is an Eye Clinic run by a professional Optometrist Mr. Sayeed Uddin Tajik a resident of Ghulkin Gojal Hunza in Aliabad the headquarter of District Hunza.

Mr. Sayeed did his primary schooling from DJ Middle School Ghulkin and USWA public school Ganish Hunza. He completed his secondary and Higher Secondary education from AKHSS Gilgit.
He excelled in Medical Education ahead and opted for his Bachelors in Optometry from King Edward Medical College in Lahore Pakistan.

After finishing his BS Optometry, he joined the largest Eye Hospital of Pakistan i.e LRBT as Optometrist and started helping the poor people suffering from Eye diseases. During his job he also got an opportunity from WHO to visit Nigeria on a project where they dealt with diseases such as Cataract which is one of the common cause of Eye blindness.
After leaving LRBT Syed joined a private clinic known as D- Watson where he worked as Optometrist and helped in identifying various threatening eye diseases. After working in this clinical project he was offered to work in the WHO COVID-19 Project as supervisor for the vaccination campaign run by the DHO Islamabad.

An Optometrist belongs to a profession where he is responsible to examine the vision of a human being, muscular abnormalities of the eye, identify congenital diseases of the eye, diagnose and treat allergic or infective diseases of the eye, perform minimal invasive surgical procedures, correct visual impairments throughout spectacles and prepare or refer patients for surgeries which are done by Ophthalmologists in tertiary hospitals of Pakistan.

Mr. Sayeed comes from a very humble background and has worked for his community and people of GB on various platforms. He came up with the idea of establishing his own Clinic in his home town where he can manage patients from Hunza who do not have any Eye related facilities and emergency setups around who can treat or identify the vision impairments.

I wish Mr. Sayeed uddin all the very best and pray for his success and may the people of our region get the best treatment and advice from him ahead.
