Building a Mental Lock Through Age-Appropriate S*x Education

Just as children are taught clear boundaries about what is right and wrong, they also need to be taught about body boundaries, private parts, safe and unsafe touch, consent, and personal space from an early age.

When children understand these boundaries, they develop a strong internal awarenessβ€”a β€œmental lock” that helps them recognize inappropriate behavior, say β€œNo,” seek help, and understand that certain actions are never acceptable.

Teaching children about these boundaries does not encourage inappropriate behavior; it protects them from it. Awareness, education, and open communication can play an important role in preventing abuse and reducing the risk of sexual violence.
