Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) Concerns Regarding PMDC Policies
It is a humble request to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to allow all students who were enrolled and graduated before the implementation of the ECFMG criteria to appear in the NRE-1 examination. During the last meeting, PMDC officials assured that the issue would be resolved on a priority basis within four days. We respectfully urge the council to fulfill this commitment at the earliest.
We have also received a video message from concerned parents abroad who are deeply anxious about the Future of their children. In the message, Dr. Jahanzeb, a consultant based in Kuwait, expressed serious concern and appealed for immediate intervention. He has also requested the Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and the President of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, to take notice of this matter. The judgment of the Peshawar High Court clearly states that all such students should be allowed to sit for the examination.
Another critical issue is related to NRE-1 pass candidates who are being denied the opportunity to appear in NRE-2 due to retrospective implementation of attempt limits. This decision is unjust and should be reconsidered to ensure fairness.
Furthermore, the passing criteria should be standardized at 50%, which aligns with global medical examination standards. This benchmark is widely accepted internationally and is already practiced within Pakistan, including by PMDC leadership and graduates of national and UK medical institutions.
Additionally, entering into a contract with Prometric would significantly benefit students. Such a system would allow candidates to take exams on a monthly basis, as practiced in countries like the USA, UK, UAE, KSA, and Qatar. This flexible and accessible approach enables students to prepare effectively and appear for exams without unnecessary delays.
We sincerely request the authorities to take immediate and fair action to resolve these pressing concerns in the best interest of thousands of affected students.
