IV Cannula Insertion in Newborns (Short)
Important: This is a medical procedure and should only be done by trained healthcare staff.
Steps:
Wash hands and use sterile gloves
Select a suitable vein (hand, foot, or scalp)
Clean the area with an antiseptic
Insert the cannula gently into the vein
Confirm blood return, then advance the cannula
Remove the needle and secure the cannula with tape
Precautions:
Maintain strict hygiene to prevent infection
Avoid repeated attempts
Check for swelling, redness, or pain regularly

IV Insert the needle at about a 15–25 degree angle to the skin.
Intramuscular (IM) injection:
Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle straight into the muscle.
Subcutaneous (SC) injection:
Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle (or sometimes 90 degrees if there is enough fatty tissue).
Intradermal (ID) injection:
Insert the needle at a very shallow 10–15 degree angle just under the skin

Must be inserted by a trained doctor or nurse
Maintain proper hygiene and sterile equipment
Use lubrication gel before insertion
Insert gently (no force)
Choose the correct catheter size
Keep urine bag below bladder level
Clean the area daily
Watch for infection signs (fever, pain, bad smell)
