How to identify different conditions on a Chest X-ray.

Here are some quick visual guides to help you recognize common findings:

Normal View – Clear lung fields, normal heart size, and sharp costophrenic angles.

Pneumonia – Look for localized opacities or consolidation.

Cardiomegaly – Enlarged cardiac silhouette, occupying more than half of the thoracic width.

Metastasis – Multiple round nodules scattered throughout the lung fields.

Pulmonary Emphysema – Hyperinflated lungs, flattened diaphragm, and increased retrosternal space.

Pulmonary Edema – Diffuse haziness, bat-wing pattern, and possible pleural effusions.

Atelectasis – Collapsed lung areas with volume loss and shifting of nearby structures.

Tuberculosis – Upper lobe infiltrates, cavitations, or fibrotic changes.

Covid-19 Infection – Patchy bilateral ground-glass opacities, often peripheral.

Cystic Fibrosis – Hyperinflation, bronchial wall thickening, and mucus plugging.
