BBMT-Pakistan Family at the National Seminar on World Hepatitis Day 2026

Proud to see the BBMT-Pakistan family actively participating in the World Hepatitis Day 2026 Seminar, jointly organized by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination and Dr. Akbar Niazi Teaching Hospital (ANTH), Islamabad.

The national event was graced by Federal Minister for Health, Syed Mustafa Kamal, and Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Prof. Ahsan Iqbal, as Chief Guests.

The seminar brought together senior leadership from the Ministry of Health, including the Federal Health Secretary and Director General Health, along with representatives of WHO, development partners, health regulatory authorities, public and private healthcare institutions, the Prime Minister's National Hepatitis Programme, and leading experts, including Prof. Huma Qureshi and Prof. Saeed Akhtar, among others.

The gathering provided an important platform for policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and development partners to deliberate on Pakistan's hepatitis burden and the collective efforts required for its prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and eventual elimination.

From BBMT-Pakistan, Prof. Shabnam Bashir, Dr. Farwa Sijjeel, Dr. Usman Waheed's participation in such national initiatives also reinforces an important message: blood safety remains an integral component of hepatitis prevention.

Strengthening voluntary blood donation, quality-assured screening, and safe transfusion practices must remain part of Pakistan's broader strategy towards hepatitis elimination.

Together, through collaboration and sustained national commitment, a hepatitis-free Pakistan is achievable.

BBMT-Pakistan Hosts International Consultative Workshop on Blood Safety at the ISBT Congress 2026, Malaysia

BBMT-Pakistan (Bring Brilliant Minds of Transfusion) proudly organized a high-level International Consultative Workshop on Blood Safety during the 39th International Congress of the ISBT (International Society of Blood Transfusion), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The workshop brought together renowned experts and delegates from the UK, Cyprus, South Africa, the Netherlands, Lebanon, China, Taiwan, and Pakistan, alongside representatives of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). We were honoured by the presence of Jenny White, Executive Director of ISBT, and Dr. Karin van den Berg, who will succeed her as the Society's next Executive Director.

More than 25 delegates from across Pakistan, representing all provinces and regions, participated in comprehensive discussions on the progress of blood transfusion services and explored strategies to further strengthen blood safety, quality management, voluntary blood donation, haemovigilance, education, research, and international collaboration.

A special moment of the workshop was a heartfelt tribute to Jenny White for her outstanding leadership and unwavering support for global blood safety over the past six years. On behalf of Pakistan's transfusion medicine community, BBMT-Pakistan expressed its deep appreciation for her invaluable contributions to capacity building and educational initiatives in Pakistan. We also warmly welcomed Dr. Karin van den Berg and conveyed our best wishes for her successful leadership of ISBT.

The workshop also celebrated the achievements of Pakistan's young scientists through the presentation of Certificates of Achievement, recognizing their outstanding research contributions to transfusion medicine. Supporting emerging researchers remains a cornerstone of BBMT-Pakistan's mission to build the next generation of leaders in blood transfusion.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to expanding collaboration between BBMT-Pakistan and ISBT in education, research, professional development, and capacity building, with the shared vision of ensuring safe blood for every patient who needs it.

This successful event highlights Pakistan's growing role in the global transfusion medicine community and reflects BBMT-Pakistan's continued dedication to advancing excellence in blood safety through international partnerships.
