Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabiei. The mites burrow into the skin, causing intense itching, especially at night, and a pimple-like rash. The most common sites for scabies are the wrists, elbows, armpits, waist, and between the fingers, though it can occur anywhere on the body.Scabies is spread through close physical contact, including prolonged skin-to-skin contact, and sometimes through infested clothing or bedding. It’s particularly common in crowded living conditions where close contact is frequent.
