How to Work in Qatar as a General Practitioner (GP), Specialist, Fellow, or Consultant (2026 Guide)

Many doctors ask me about the pathway to work in Qatar. Based on my experience and the current DHP-MOPH process, here is a simplified guide.
Step 1:
Pass the DHP-MOPH GP Prometric Exam
* Book your exam through the official Prometric portal.
* FCPS/MD specialists generally do not need the Qatar GP Prometric exam for specialist evaluation.
* For a GP license, you must have at least 5 years of post-internship General Practice (GP/MO/WMO) experience.
* Less than 5 years of GP experience = Not eligible.
* Pure specialty experience (Pediatrics, Cardiology, Endocrinology, etc.) does not count as GP experience.
* Example:
* ✅ 3 years GP + 2 years Pediatrics = Eligible for GP.
* ❌ 5 years only in Pediatrics = Not eligible for GP.

Step 2:
Verify Your Academic Documents
Get your:
* Degree
* Transcript
verified by:
* University
* HEC
* MOFA

Step 3: Complete DataFlow Verification
Submit your documents for Qatar DataFlow verification.

Step 4: Obtain a Good Standing Certificate
Apply for a Good Standing Certificate from PMDC.

Step 5: Apply for DHP Evaluation
Upload the following on the DHP portal:
* Exam result (if applicable)
* DataFlow report
* Good Standing Certificate
If approved, you will receive an eligibility/evaluation valid for 6 months, allowing you to seek employment.

Step 6: Apply for Jobs
You can apply from Pakistan through:
* LinkedIn
* Indeed
* GulfTalent
* Gulf Naukri and other healthcare recruitment portals
However, getting a job directly from Pakistan is difficult and depends on employer demand.
Another option is to come to Qatar on a visit visa (if eligible) and search for a job locally.

* 150 MCQs
* Passing score: 100/150
* Duration: 3 hours
* Exam center available in Karachi
* Approximate exam fee: PKR 100,000
* Approximate DataFlow cost: PKR 200,000
* Exam validity: 3 years
Recommended study subjects:
* Internal Medicine
* Surgery
* Pediatrics
* Obstetrics & Gynecology
* Ethics

Important Points
* Completing only residency/training does not make you eligible for a GP post.
* A minimum of 5 years of GP/MO/WMO experience is required for GP licensing.
* FCPS-qualified doctors can apply for Specialist evaluation and generally skip the GP Prometric exam.
* DCH or MRCPCH alone does not qualify you for specialist registration without meeting UK recognized training and experience requirements.
* Qatar generally has No Resident, Registrar, or Assistant Physician positions compared with countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Oman.
* GP experience means actual General Practice/MO/WMO experience, not residency or specialty training.

Career Progression
* FCPS + 3 years specialist experience → Eligible to apply as a Specialist (subject to DHP requirements).
* FCPS + 10 years specialist experience → May be eligible to apply as a Consultant (subject to DHP requirements).
* Recent MBBS graduates (within eligibility criteria) with USMLE 2 may apply separately for residency pathways where available.
