Case : Pitted Keratolysis in hospital worker.

Pitted keratolysis is a superficial bacterial skin infection that affects the soles of the feet (and sometimes the palms), particularly in people who sweat excessively or wear occlusive footwear for long hours.

🔬 Causes

It’s caused by overgrowth of certain bacteria, primarily:

Corynebacterium species

These bacteria thrive in moist, sweaty environments, and produce proteolytic enzymes that break down the keratin in the skin, leading to the characteristic pits.

👣 Clinical Features

Shallow pits or erosions on pressure-bearing areas of the soles (esp. heels, balls of feet)

Foul odor (due to sulfur compounds)

Burning, itching, or pain, especially when walking or sweatin

🧪 Diagnosis

Usually clinical, based on appearance and history.

🛡️ Prevention

Good foot hygiene

Wearing moisture-wicking socks

Regularly airing out shoes

Avoid walking barefoot in communal wet areas

🌟 Benefits of Vitamin C for Skin:

1. Brightens Skin Tone

Fades dark spots, pigmentation, and sun spots.

Gives a more even and radiant complexion.

2. Boosts Collagen Production

Stimulates collagen synthesis, improving skin elasticity.

Reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

3. Protects Against Sun Damage

Neutralizes free radicals from UV exposure (best when paired with sunscreen).

4. Reduces Hyperpigmentation

Helps lighten melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

5. Fights Inflammation & Redness

Calms irritated skin and helps reduce acne-related inflammation.

🧴 How to Use Vitamin C in Skincare:

Form: Serums are most effective due to better skin absorption.

Time: Use in the morning after cleansing and before sunscreen.

Concentration: 10–20% L-Ascorbic Acid is effective for most skin types.

Storage: Keep in a cool, dark place to prevent oxidation.

⚠️ Caution:

May cause irritation for sensitive skin (start with lower concentration).

Erythema Multiforme (EM) is an acute, immune-mediated skin condition that presents with target-like red lesions. It's often triggered by infections, especially herpes simplex virus (HSV), but can also be linked to medications or other factors.

Feature Details

Type Hypersensitivity reaction
Common triggers Herpes simplex virus (most common), Mycoplasma pneumoniae, certain medications (e.g., sulfa drugs, anticonvulsants)
Classic lesions "Target" or "iris" lesions with 3 concentric zones
Areas affected Extremities (hands, feet), face, mucous membranes
Severity Usually mild (EM minor); severe form = EM major (with mucosal involvement)
Duration Self-limited, resolves in 2–4 weeks

⚕️ Management

Identify & remove trigger (e.g., treat HSV, stop causative drug)

Mild cases:

Symptomatic treatment (antihistamines, topical corticosteroids)

Severe or recurrent EM:

Oral antivirals for HSV.

Short course of systemic corticosteroids (in some cases)

Absolutely — aesthetic procedures are not mandatory. Here's a more grounded perspective:

💬 Aesthetic Procedures: Optional, Not Essential

They are personal choices, not medical necessities.

Society and social media may promote them, but you don’t need them to look or feel beautiful.

True confidence comes from self-acceptance, and not from perfect skin, symmetry, or trends.

Natural features, aging, and imperfections are normal and human — not flaws to “fix.”

🧘‍♀️ Instead, Focus On:

Healthy lifestyle: sleep, hydration, nutrition, and movement

Skincare that suits you, not the most expensive or trending

Mental wellness — stress, self-worth, and body image all impact how you feel

Choosing treatments (if ever) for yourself — not because of pressure

✨ Reminder:

It's okay to want to enhance your looks, and it's equally okay not to. You are not less for choosing to age naturally, and you're not vain for choosing to enhance.

Impetigo is a highly contagious skin infection, most commonly seen in children, but it can affect people of any age. It’s usually caused by bacteria—either Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes.

---

🔍 Types of Impetigo

1. Non-bullous impetigo (more common)

Begins as red sores or blisters around the nose and mouth

Quickly burst and form a golden-yellow crust

Often itchy but not painful

2. Bullous impetigo

Causes larger fluid-filled blisters (bullae)

Common on the trunk and diaper area

Less common, but more often seen in infants

---

⚠️ Causes & Risk Factors

Bacterial infection through cuts, insect bites, or existing skin conditions (e.g., eczema)

Warm, humid weather

Poor hygiene

Close contact (e.g., schools, sports)

---

💡 Symptoms

Red sores or blisters that burst and ooze

Honey-colored crust formation

Itching or irritation

Swollen lymph nodes (in some cases)

---

💊 Treatment

Topical antibiotics

Oral antibiotics (for widespread or resistant cases)

Gentle cleansing of the skin

Avoid scratching and keep nails trimmed

---

🚫 Prevention Tips

Keep wounds clean and covered

Avoid sharing towels, clothing, or bedding

Regular hand washing

Stay home from school or work until no longer contagious (usually 24–48 hours after starting treatment)
