Surgical approach in total knee arthroplasty affects more than pain and range of motion, it may also influence postural stability in ways that predict fall risk.

In women undergoing TKA, the medial parapatellar approach resulted in significantly greater loss of postural sway complexity compared to the mid-vastus approach, with deviations from healthy controls persisting through at least one month postoperatively, while no such differences were observed in the mid-vastus group.
