Keep Magnets and Small Objects Away From Children — It Can Be Life-Threatening*
A few days ago, my nephew accidentally swallowed 10 small magnets. No one realized it at first. As his condition worsened, we rushed him to Liaquat National Hospital, where doctors discovered the magnets inside him. He needed immediate surgery.
Now his intestine is outside his stomach for almost a month so it can heal properly. He’s in the recovery phase, and the road ahead is long.
My nephew is also an epileptic patient, which made this even more dangerous and harder to detect early. Children with medical conditions may not be able to tell you what’s wrong, and symptoms can be mistaken for something else.
*Please take this seriously:*
- Small magnets, button batteries, and other tiny objects look like toys to children.
- If swallowed, magnets can stick together inside the intestines, cut through tissue, cause blockages, infections, and require emergency surgery.
- Keep all small objects out of reach and sight of children at all times.
Don’t wait for a scare like this to act. One small mistake can change a child’s life forever.
Please share this so other parents and caregivers stay alert.
