Everyone talks about passing exams.

Very few talk about the battle that happens before you even open the book.

The procrastination.
The self-doubt.
The guilt of wasting another day.
The constant feeling that everyone else has figured it out while you’re still trying to find your rhythm.

There were days when the hardest part wasn’t understanding medicine.

It was convincing myself to start.

Looking back, I realize something:

Progress isn’t made on the days you’re highly motivated.

It’s made on the days you choose to begin anyway.

If you’re struggling with procrastination or feeling like you’re falling behind, you’re not alone.

Be patient with yourself.

Take the next step.

Then the next one.

One day, you’ll look back and realize those small steps took you farther than you ever imagined.

❤️ If this resonates with you, save this post for the days you need the reminder.

I keep telling you guys—
start looking for observerships EARLY.

I contacted this hospital back in September…
for a rotation in July.

Sent follow-ups. Waited.
Nothing was confirmed for months.

Yesterday, I was about to book a flight
for a different observership in California.

I thought this wouldn’t work out.

And then today—during rounds—
I got this email.

This process isn’t just effort.
It’s timing, patience… and strategy.

Have a backup.
But don’t rush decisions out of panic.

If you wait till the last moment—
you lose options.

Plan early. Position yourself early.

You hear all the positive things about observerships.

The networking. The connections. The doors it opens.

But there’s another side people don’t talk about.

The first day—walking into a system where you don’t have a role yet.
The long hallways. The badge that doesn’t mean much to anyone.
The moment rounds begin… and you realize you’re just observing.

No patients. No responsibility. No place on the list.

You watch doctors make decisions.
You watch teams move with purpose.

And you stand slightly behind—
not because you don’t care,
but because there’s no space for you yet.

The team is kind. That’s what makes it harder.

Because there’s no villain.
No one to blame.

Just the quiet feeling of being invisible
in a room where everyone else belongs.

And if you’re not careful,
you start thinking the problem is you.

Sometimes it is.

But sometimes—you’re in a system
that was never designed for you to participate.

And that’s the shift most people miss.

You don’t just try harder.
You learn how to position yourself.

You stop waiting to be included.
You start creating value.

Because in these rooms,
visibility doesn’t come from being present.

It comes from being useful.
