The Department of Paediatrics, Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital (GTTH), successfully conducted a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Hands-on-training Workshop under the kind supervision of Worthy Professor Dr. Rizwan Waseem, in collaboration with the dedicated Paediatric Faculty.

The workshop was organized to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and confidence of healthcare professionals involved in the immediate care and resuscitation of newborns. Participants included Paediatric Residents, House Officers, Staff Nurses from GTTH, and Lady Health Visitors (LHVs) from Dogra Kalan, Chappa and Jallo Pind BHUs.

The training focused on the latest NRP recommendations and evidence-based neonatal resuscitation practices, with particular emphasis on timely assessment and decision-making at birth, initial newborn care, effective positive-pressure ventilation, airway management, chest compressions, oxygen use, and the appropriate use of emergency medications.

A major feature of the workshop was its hands-on, simulation-based training, allowing participants to practice essential neonatal resuscitation skills in a controlled environment. Faculty members provided demonstrations, supervised individual and team-based practice, and constructive feedback to improve participants’ technical skills and adherence to the NRP algorithm.
The workshop highlighted the importance of effective teamwork, communication, rapid recognition of neonatal compromise, and timely initiation of appropriate resuscitative measures. Such practical training is particularly valuable for frontline healthcare workers who may encounter newborns requiring immediate resuscitation.
Certificates were given to the participants by Medical Director GTTH Dr. Khurram Ejaz and Professor Dr. Rizwan Waseem.

The Department of Paediatrics extends its appreciation to Worthy Professor Dr. Rizwan Waseem and the Paediatric Faculty for their guidance and commitment to improving neonatal care. The workshop represents another important step toward strengthening neonatal resuscitation capacity and promoting safer newborn outcomes in the community.
