Hey Everyone!
I am receiving alot of messages regarding Salary & Life in Ireland.
Salary ;
Starting salary Of SHO is 46K euros per year. Your salary depends on your experience.
SHO 1.... 1 year Experience
SHO 2... 2 years experience
I'm SHO 2, my salary is about 48K euros per year ( including tax ).
My salary per hour is 23 euros.
Means, if you have more experience, your SHO grade will be high, your annual salary and per hour rate will be high.. some of my colleagues are SHO 5, ( 5 years experience post housejob ) , their per hour rate is 30 Euros.
Working Hours;
You are supposed to work for 78 hours in 2 weeks.
8 hours daily from 9 am to 5 pm , Mon to Thursday
And on Friday 9 am to 4 pm..ie 7 hours ..
Weekend off.
Per week..39 hours , 02 weekly 78 hours....
If you work for more than 78 hours in 02 weeks, you will get paid for that.
Let's suppose,
Some of my tasks are remaining, and I have to work in hospital till 6 pm..
Then I will get payment for that...and that will be 1.5 x of my rate..
Like from 9 to 5 pm, my rate is 23 euros per her, then after 5 pm it will 1.5 times of my original rate.. means after 5 pm I will get 35 euros per hour.
If you work on national holiday or on Sunday , you will get double payment.
Instead of 23 euros, I will get 46 Euros per hour.
(In Ireland, you will usually get salary after 02 weeks.)
Tasks Of SHO in Ward;
We work in Wards from
9am -5pm under supervision of registrar and consultant.
Prepare beds, check labs and radiographs of patient, any active complaint. make your preliminary plan
Then present it to consultant in round.He will give you plan, follow that plan..
Like order or follow investigation, prescription, discharge patient, discharge summary,letter to GP, opinion from other speciality, family meeting, ABGs, blood culture, sometimes IV line, catheter..
Sometimes we have to do duty in ED, 2 SHOs working under supervision of registrar.12 hours From 9-9 day or night.
In ED, take to patient, examination, investigation, initial plan, discuss it with Registrar, follow his order.
Working Environment;
Here consultant and registrars are quite different.
Nobody can insult you, no bullying, no disrespectful comments. No formalities.
Everyone is responsible for his own task, works in own domain, Physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social, nurses, dietician, pharmacist,
Speech and language therapists, Porter,cleaner.
no one is superior. No one is bounded. You can't give command to anyone, even to a cleaner.
Cool ,calm, respectful, protocol and guidelines based environment.
Salary & tax & expenses
Here tax is about 30-40 percent. But in initial 4-6 months, about 0- 20 percent tax will be deducted.
I am getting 1.8K euros for 2 weeks ( 78 hours), no extra duties..with extra duties sometimes 2.5K - 3K
with no tax deduction but will pay 30-40 percent tax from January.
Expenses
Finding accomodation in Ireland, specially in Dublin is difficult..and expensive..
One room; 500-600 euros per month.. if you are living alone, no family, and cooking for yourself.. your whole month expenses including rent will be 1K-1.2K
Challenges;
Leaving home is very challenging.
In 1st few months, you will face alot of challenges.
Finding accomodation, adjustment, working in new system, where everything is online, soft ware and computer based, following guidelines and protocol, new terminologies.
Opening bank account, personal number, personal cards, lab and radiology Account, cooking for your self. Buying things.. getting use to whether. In 2-3 months you will learn everything.
Get up early in morning, prepare breakfast, get ready, go to hospital, work for 8 hours, then home, refresh, prepare dinner, tea. Study..then go to sleep...
You will not get enough time here,to talk on Mobile phones and message on phones for a long time. Even sometimes it's difficult to give time to your loved ones.
