Today, I had the opportunity to present an echocardiographic evaluation of Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) at Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Lahore!
🌟 Did You Know? 🌟
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is one of the most common congenital heart defects, affecting thousands of newborns every year! 💔👶
🔹 It’s a combination of 4 heart problems that affect blood flow, which are as follows:
1️⃣ Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD): A hole between the two lower heart chambers (ventricles).
2️⃣ Pulmonary Stenosis: Narrowing of the pulmonary valve and outflow tract, reducing blood flow to the lungs.
3️⃣ Overriding Aorta: The aorta is positioned above both ventricles instead of just the left, receiving blood from both sides.
4️⃣ Right Ventricular Hypertrophy: Thickening of the right ventricular muscle due to the heart working harder than normal.
🔹 Symptoms can include bluish skin (cyanosis), difficulty breathing, and fainting spells.
🔹 With timely surgery and care, children with TOF can lead healthy, active lives! 💙🏥
Early diagnosis saves lives.
If you notice signs of breathing difficulty or blue skin in your newborn, consult a pediatric cardiologist immediately!
