Hydrocephalus

Hydrocephalus = too much cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collecting inside the brain ventricles, causing enlargement of the brain spaces (ventricles).

Ultrasound Report

Bilateral ventricle are noted measuring approximately 40mm. Atria width measuring up to 22mm. The midline structure including ( falx and CSP ) are not visualized .
Posterior fossa structure are not visualized at the time of examination.

Impression

Ultrasound feature are suggests Hydrocephalus .

Normal AFI (Amniotic Fluid Index) Measurements on Ultrasound

AFI is measured by dividing the uterus into 4 quadrants and adding the deepest vertical pocket (cm) from each quadrant.

AFI values:

Normal AFI: 5 – 24 cm
Oligohydramnios (low fluid): < 5 cm
Borderline / decreased fluid: 5 – 8 cm (some use this range)
Polyhydramnios (excess fluid): ≥ 25 cm
Deepest Vertical Pocket (DVP / MVP):
Normal: 2 – 8 cm
Oligohydramnios: < 2 cm
Polyhydramnios: ≥ 8 cm

The fetus normally: Swallows amniotic fluid → fluid passes through stomach and small bowel → absorption → fluid balance

In small bowel obstruction, there is a blockage in the intestine: Swallowed fluid cannot pass → less absorption → fluid accumulates outside the fetus → polyhydramnios.
