🐾 CATherapy | Webinarul lunii august

Încheiem luna cu o nouă întâlnire dedicată uneia dintre cele mai importante relații pe care le construim cu animalele.

„Ne fac animalele bine? Ce știm despre relația om–animal?”

Pe 31 august, de la ora 18:00, Andreea Grămescu, Med. Dr. veterinar, psiholog și psihoterapeut în formare, membră a echipei CATherapy și moderator Irina Andreea Pavel, psiholog clinician și fondator CATherapy, vor explora într-o conversație interdisciplinară relația om–felină din perspectiva Human–Animal Bond, a atașamentului, a sănătății psihologice și a bunăstării.

Discuția va urmări relația cu felinele în întregul lor parcurs, de la beneficiile și responsabilitățile vieții împărtășite, până la momentul pierderii și la procesul de doliu care îl urmează.

În încheiere vom deschide înscrierile pentru cea de-a doua grupă a grupului de suport psihologic destinat persoanelor care traversează procesul de doliu, inclusiv doliul anticipatoriu, în contextul pierderii sau al apropierii de pierderea unui animal companion felin. Grupul va debuta în luna octombrie alături de psihoterapeuții Diviziei Psihoeducaționale COGNISFERA.

Happy International Cat Day! 🐾

Today we celebrate the cats, who make our lives a little softer, a little more curious and often much more connected.

At CATherapy, we see the relationship between people and cats as something built with patience, trust and respect. Cats bring their own personalities, ways of communicating and boundaries into every interaction, and that is precisely what makes the human–animal bond so meaningful.

For us their wellbeing matters just as much as the benefits their presence may bring to people.

Because a genuine connection cannot be forced.
It is built, one moment of trust at a time.

Today we celebrate all cats in all their wonderfully individual ways and we are especially grateful for the ones who choose to share their world with us.

A professional field does not begin with its first training programme. It begins with defining the competencies it requires.

Around the world animal-assisted services are evolving beyond the simple presence of an animal within an intervention. Increasingly, the focus is shifting towards the education and training of professionals and scientific foundations.

In the context of feline-assisted services this field remains in its early stages of development raising an essential question:

What knowledge and competencies should a professional possess to integrate a cat responsibly into a professional intervention?

The answer extends far beyond personal experience with animals or familiarity with the behaviour of an individual cat. It requires a comprehensive understanding of feline ethology, animal welfare principles, the human-animal relationship, the psychological mechanisms involved in intervention, and the ethical responsibilities inherent in professional practice.

Across many areas of psychology, the emergence of new competencies has been followed by the development of dedicated education and training programmes, grounded in scientific evidence and designed to support competent professional practice. The same progression can reasonably be expected in any field that seeks to establish itself as a recognised professional discipline.

Within this context, applied feline ethology should not be regarded solely as an academic discipline, but as one of the fundamental pillars upon which the education and training of future professionals working in feline-assisted services can be built.

Every mature profession begins by defining the competencies that distinguish it.

Only then do education, training and evidence-informed practice follow.

What do you see in this photo?

Most people would answer “Two beautiful cats.”

We see something different and we do not begin by asking what these cats can do for people. We begin by asking if they do choose to be here?

One of the least discussed, yet most important principles in animal-assisted service is animal agency. A therapy animal is not a therapeutic tool. It is a sentient individual capable of making choices, expressing preferences, and communicating discomfort.

Every posture.
Every glance.
Every change in body orientation.
Every increase or decrease in social distance.

These are not random behaviours. They are forms of communication.

Ignoring them does not simply reduce the quality of an intervention. It compromises animal welfare. Ethology teaches us that behaviour is data. Welfare is measurable. Participation should never be assumed.

Responsible feline-assisted interventions are therefore built on a fundamental principle:
The cat’s willingness to participate is a prerequisite, not an outcome. Before asking whether an intervention benefits a person, we must first ask whether it respects the animal.

This perspective forms the scientific foundation of CATherapy Romania and will continue to guide our educational events throughout August 2026. In November 2026, we will launch the comprehensive Feline Ethology Course, designed for psychologists, veterinarians, researchers, students and animal-assisted intervention professionals committed to evidence-based practice and high welfare standards.

Because ethical practice begins long before the first therapeutic interaction. It begins with understanding the animal as a participant, not as a resource.

Relația om-felină: între emoție și responsabilitate

Sub această temă a avut loc, vineri, 3 iulie, prima ediție a seriei de evenimente educaționale lunare dedicate comunității, un proiect al Asociației ODIN - Divizia CATherapy care își propune să promoveze dialogul interdisciplinar și dezvoltarea etică a serviciilor asistate de feline în România.

Pornind de la ideea că atașamentul față de animale trebuie însoțit de cunoaștere, responsabilitate și colaborare între discipline, participanții au avut ocazia să descopere perspective complementare asupra acestui domeniu: de la prezentarea activităților și direcțiilor de dezvoltare ale Asociației ODIN - Divizia CATherapy, la reflecții inspirate din lucrările lui Frans de Waal, discuții filosofice despre relația dintre om și feline, precum și informații de specialitate privind sănătatea și bunăstarea felinelor.

Le mulțumim tuturor celor care au ales să fie alături de noi, atât în sală, cât și online. Interesul, întrebările și contribuțiile participanților au transformat această seară într-o întâlnire autentică, deschisă și practică.

Mulțumim pentru perspectivele valoroase oferite de invitații noștri, Prof. Dr. Doru Căstăian, medic veterinar Dr. Bianca Theodora Gîscă și psiholog Irina Andreea Pavel, precum și Librăriei Humanitas pentru organizarea ireproșabilă, partenerilor și tuturor celor care au contribuit la reușita acestei seri.

Cu această ocazie am lansat și campania de strângere de fonduri pentru dezvoltarea Diviziei de Etologie Aplicată și Servicii Asistate de Feline CATherapy. Sprijinul primit va contribui la dezvoltarea activităților educaționale și psihologice, a cercetării, organizării viitoarelor evenimente, oferirii de ședințe gratuite pentru comunitate, proiectelor dedicate bunăstării felinelor și promovării în continuare pe baze științifice a unei relații sănătoase dintre oameni și feline.

În zilele caniculare, gesturile mici pot avea un impact uriaș.

Pentru multe animale fără stăpân, accesul la apă nu este o alegere, ci o nevoie vitală. O pisică, un câine sau o pasăre din parc depind uneori de un singur gest de grijă făcut de un om.

Un vas cu apă proaspătă, așezat în fața casei, la poarta blocului sau într-un colț umbrit al parcului, poate preveni deshidratarea și poate salva vieți.

💧 Schimbă apa zilnic.
🐾 Așază recipientul într-un loc ferit de soarele direct.
🕊️ Nu uita de păsări, și ele au nevoie de acces constant la apă.
❤️ Repetă acest gest ori de câte ori este nevoie.

Compasiunea nu se măsoară în gesturi mari, ci în gesturile pe care alegem să le facem atunci când nimeni nu ne obligă!
