During my recent visit to the UK, I reconnected with my friend, Dr. Shaista Shaista Meraj

After years of impactful work in the NHS, Dr. Shaista moved to the UAE, where she has been developing state-of-the-art Breast Clinics at NMC Healthcare from the ground up, leading service design, clinical governance, and strategic planning. As a Consultant Radiologist and Department Head of Radiology at NMC Specialty Al Nahda , her dedication to early detection and specialised breast care continues to transform lives.

I am excited to join forces with Dr. Shaista to launch an educational video series in both English and Urdu. Our goal is to drive vital, accessible conversations around detection, prevention, treatment, and aftercare for women, girls, and men in the region.

Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) affects women under 40, leading to early menopause due to reasons ranging from lifestyle factors to cancer treatments like chemotherapy. Physical and psychological support is crucial for these young women.

This is a topic very close to my heart, and after working on this research for months, it was published in the Menopause Journal.

Our findings highlight a significant clinical gap which is resonated across the tertiary hospitals in the world.

I would love to hear from fellow researchers, experts, clinicians, specialists and patients, so we can have conversations on this subject and expand global care for POI.

Many years ago, I travelled to Annecy as a junior doctor along with my family to visit my younger sister who was living there at the time.

I still remembered the beautiful air hitting my face while I stared at the magnificent mountains.

This summer I travelled with my daughter to Annecy.

Took a short easyJet flight from Manchester to France.

I was so inspired by the beautiful scenery , which also reminded me of the poetry of Allama Iqbal. So I found myself reciting it to these mountains themselves as there was no one around who could still understand the complex Urdu of this poetry.

The boat trip along river Somm was amazing as it made sightseeing so easy.

Stayed at the stunning Imperial Palace Annecy

I found the mountains and the wind and the water the same as many years before. It was as if they were all waiting for me to come back to see them.

We took a train to enjoy the beautiful historic city of Lyon.

I’m back from my short French getaway feeling refreshed.

How does va**nal oestrogen stop recurring UTIs?

The upper wall of the va**na lies directly beneath your urethra and bladder. When the va**nal oestrogen is applied locally it gets absorbed right into the surrounding tissues and strengthens both the va**nal and urinary tract lining. It also restores healthy tissue to fight off recurrent UTIs and ease discomfort from Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).
