The most crucial step in managing allergic contact dermatitis is finding out what is causing the immune reaction and eliminating it from your routine. Common culprits include nickel (often found in belt buckles or costume jewelry), fragrances, preservatives in cosmetics, and certain plant oils like poison ivy. If the trigger isn't obvious, a physician can perform patch testing to pinpoint the exact allergen.
