Freagles of India is a registered trust, with the objective to rehabilitate and rehome animals relea Our adoption process is extremely stringent.

Freagles of India takes custody of beagles that are ready to be released from animal testing laboratories in India as per the CPCSEA Guidelines governing the use of beagles in testing. We board them in private boarding facilities, conduct complete medical examinations, treat them for anything if required (usually anaemia and dental issues), work on their emotional rehabilitation and then find them

suitable homes. These beagles, having lived their entire lives in cages, need time and patience to teach them the ways of living as companion animals in homes. There is pre and post adoption counselling extensively done with families to ensure successful adoptions.

In the whole adoption game, we often forget the humans lives that we have the privilege of changing. We make so many childhoods awesome because they grew up with a rescued dog.

UPDATE ON RUBY

Ruby underwent multiple surgeries yesterday over a period of 3 hours.
~ Her uterus was on the verge of bursting, her pyometra was that advanced. It would have been fatal, if it had. She had just one horn of the y-shaped uterus, a condition called unihornus.
~ One o***y could not be removed. There was too much fat which made access near impossible.
~ What was thought to be a tumour on the spleen in the ultrasound, was not. Her spleen is bifurcated, making it look like there was a growth there.
~ She does not have one kidney. This explains her renal parameters being out of whack. One organ is doing the work of two, on a body that is extremely overweight.
~ The growth on the top of her head was removed.
~ Her cherry eye was fixed as best as possible, as it has been there unattended for a very long time.
~ Dental scaling was done right at the end, as best as possible as it was important to reverse the anaesthesia. She had been under for way too long.

She isn’t eating yet, so she’s on a drip. She’s sleeping well, rest is crucial for her. She will remain as an in patient at for the next few days so that they can monitor her condition & multiple surgery sites. Huge shoutout to Dr. Ashwin for his exemplary surgery skills & to who always goes over and beyond for any of our dogs admitted here.

Ruby is a case of abject neglect, irresponsible pet guardianship and not to forget, irresponsible breeding. We are constantly left to clean up the mess, while dogs continue to suffer.

BANGALORE ADOPTION

Lenny is a 2 year old little girl who’s up for adoption. She as given up for falana dhimkana reasons. Falana Dhimkana in Arabic means so & so, basically reasons that are inconsequential & have got nothing to do with the dog.

Lenny is vaccinated & spayed, so you don’t have to worry about messy heat cycles or accidental pregnancies. She loves going on walks, riding in the car & playing with toys. She will come running towards you at full speed & flop over to give you the pleasure of rubbing her belly. She’s very good with children but if your child is not used to a little dog jumping on them to greet them, then Lenny is not the dog for you. Lenny is very happy to live with other dogs & even play with them occasionally but for her humans > dogs. She is also toilet trained but expect a few accidents in the beginning till she figures out the routine of her new life. She can be left alone for a few hours in a day.

We have in our custody right now, five beagles who were formerly used in the breeding industry. Two of them have already gone into their foster homes last week & the rest who are at the in patient facility of a veterinary clinic will be going into their respective foster homes this week.

We are watching them learn to live in a home for the first time in their lives, as a part of a family. Their first walk, their first warm bed, their first bowls of fresh nutritious meals cooked for them. We are watching them tuck their tails in between their legs when men approach them, cower when a hand is raised towards them to give them a pat. While we are grateful that they have most of their lives ahead of them in we can’t help but be sad & angry for all the years robbed off them in the past.

A lot of people retort that it’s “our personal choice to have a particular breed of pup”. Please remember the boys & girls who have to produce them for you. They don’t have a choice for their lives at all. While you may give the pup you’ve bought car rides, birthday parties & plushy toys, these boys & girls don’t have access to even regular walks, basic medical care or a clean living environment.

This is Tara, who’s in a loving foster home for her first ever Diwali where previously each day was the same as the last. Please be the light in what is an otherwise bleak world. Please make better choices, there are lives that depend on them. When the buying stops, the breeding will too.

Molly, ex research laboratory beagle adopted from us a few years ago, moved to Germany with her parents & sister Jenny.

They’re just here to remind us all that dogs are family & you just don’t leave them behind.

Honorary beagle in our care, is this senior boy Sheru. We sent him for a grooming session to get festival ready but he’s not sure if he’s looking as cute without his unruly mohawk on his head. Send him some words of reassurance, would you please?

Sheru was part of three senior dogs who came to us from a home of abject neglect. While the other two Murugan & Lajjo have settled beautifully in their respective homes, this little one is still in our care.

We think Fisher is spending too much time with the cats at the in-patient facility at where he’s been admitted for his treatment. He’s now a beagle who identifies as a cat.

Photo dump of our gang of freagles jumping around for treats. And to think just a few weeks ago, they recognised nothing except their kibble as food. What a long way they’ve come our Jersey, Salmon, Percy, Ferdinand, Eeyore, Chico, Humphrey & Earl.

We will begin their adoption process post Diwali. 8 boys, 4 years old, ready to take on their new world with curiosity & twitching noses. Some lucky families in Bangalore will soon be freagle’d!

On the one hand, we are getting so many dogs who are being given up for adoption when families are relocating abroad but don’t want to spend money & effort to take their dog along.

On the other, we have so many of our adopters who would never dream of leaving their dogs behind & who make life decisions keeping their precious babies in mind.

Shadow & Eva are now senior freagles adopted from us a few years ago. After going on many adventures with their parents across India, they have now moved to Sweden. Follow to watch our alum living it up in

BANGALORE ADOPTION

Cookie is a 1.5 year old boy who’s looking for a home. We’re not sure why he was given up in the first place, he was adopted out through a FB post & the person who adopted him had some urgent work that needed him to leave town within a week of taking Cookie home. Fortunately, he was handed over to us so we can do our due diligence to ensure he isn’t bounced around anymore.

Cookie is an absolute sucker for scratches & cuddles. He’s good with other dogs & enjoys playing with them too. He’s a typical busy beagle bum who wants to be everywhere checking in on everything.
