Are you giving because you want to, or because you find it hard to say no?

Something I’ve noticed with many of my clients is how easily they put everyone else’s needs before their own.

They’re always available. Always helping. Always making sure everyone else is okay.

And often, they don’t think twice about it.

Until they’re exhausted, frustrated or quietly resentful.

What I find interesting is that many of these people are confident and capable in other areas of their lives. They can make difficult decisions at work, but saying no to a friend or family member brings up so much guilt.

Sometimes, this goes back to what we learnt growing up.

Maybe we were praised for being the good child, the helpful one, the one who never caused trouble.

Maybe keeping everyone happy was how we kept the peace.

And somewhere along the way, we learnt to put ourselves last.

There’s nothing wrong with being generous or caring for others.

But there’s a difference between giving because you genuinely want to and giving because you’re afraid of disappointing someone.

You can care deeply about others without constantly putting yourself last.

Something to think about.

How often do you say yes when you really want to say no?

And what are you afraid might happen if you don’t?

I’ve realised there’s a difference between:

“I can do it myself.”
and
“I only feel safe when I do it myself.”

For so many of us, receiving can actually feel harder than giving.

Receiving help without feeling guilty.
Receiving a compliment without brushing it away.
Letting someone else take care of something.
Saying I need you without feeling weak.
Resting without having to earn it first.

When you’ve spent years being capable and self-sufficient, being supported can feel strangely vulnerable.

I’ve had to notice this in myself too.

The answer isn’t becoming less independent. I love that part of me.

It’s learning that I don’t always have to prove my strength by carrying everything.

Sometimes growth isn’t about doing more.

Sometimes it’s allowing yourself to receive.

What’s harder for you- Asking for help or actually receiving it when it comes?

There are parts of myself I’ve worked really hard to change.

I’ve understood them. Talked about them. Challenged the beliefs underneath them.

And yet sometimes… the same old reaction still shows up.

I used to think that meant I hadn’t done enough work.

I don’t anymore.

Because not everything we carry started with us.

Long before we’re old enough to question anything, we’re learning.

What gets us love.
What gets us approval.
Whether it’s safe to take up space.
Whether rest needs to be earned.
Whether our worth comes from simply being… or from what we do for everyone else.

And sometimes those beliefs didn’t even begin with our parents. They were handed to them too.

Lately I’ve been sitting with a different question.

Instead of “Why am I still like this?”

I’m asking:

“Where did I learn that I had to be?”

That small shift has changed something for me.

Because we don’t only inherit the difficult stuff.

We inherit strength. Humour. Courage. Resilience. Love. The parts of our families that survived and kept going.

Maybe the work isn’t about rejecting where we came from.

Maybe it’s about choosing.

What do I want to keep?

And what am I finally ready to put down?

This is so much of the work we explore at SixthSense. 🤍

Maybe you’re not ‘just stressed’

We use the word “stressed” for almost everything.

I know I do.

But I’ve started noticing that what I call stress isn’t always stress.

Sometimes it’s anxiety- I don’t know what’s going to happen.

Sometimes it’s stress - too much is being asked of me and I don’t feel like I have enough capacity.

Sometimes it’s pressure - something important is at stake and I feel like the outcome depends on me.

Sometimes it’s fear - something feels unsafe.

And sometimes it’s overwhelm - I’m simply full. Too many thoughts, feelings and demands at once.

They can all feel similar in the body.

But they don’t need the same thing.

Anxiety may need reassurance or a greater tolerance for uncertainty.

Stress may need fewer demands or more support.

Pressure may need us to loosen our grip on the outcome.

Fear may need safety.

Overwhelm may simply need space.

This is something I come back to often in my work.

Before trying to fix what you’re feeling, get curious about what it actually is.

Because the more accurately we can name what’s happening inside us, the better we can understand what our nervous system is asking for.

So instead of:

“Why am I so stressed?”

Try:

“What am I actually feeling right now, and what might I need?”

Sometimes that tiny distinction changes everything.

We’re not exhausted because we’re doing too much.

We’re exhausted because we’re watering everyone else’s garden,
and wondering why ours feels so dry.

We show up.
We help.
We listen.
We fix.
We make sure everyone else is okay.

And somewhere along the way, we quietly move ourselves to the bottom of the list.

The answer isn’t to stop caring about other people.

It’s to stop abandoning yourself while you do it.

Maybe today, before you pour into someone else, ask:

What needs watering in me?

You might be surprised by the answer. 🌱

RESET is a gentle transformational session designed to help you let go of what’s weighing you down, quiet the mental clutter, and reconnect with yourself again.

A space to breathe. Reflect. Release. Realign.

If you’ve been feeling emotionally tired, constantly “on,” or unsure of your next step, this may be the reset your mind and nervous system have been asking for. ✨

You know that feeling when the day is technically over… but your mind keeps going?

Replaying conversations.
Thinking about what you should’ve said differently.
Feeling responsible for everything.
Trying to relax but never quite getting there.

You still function.
You still work, respond, organise, show up for people.

But your body feels tight all the time.

Your stomach.
Your chest.
Your jaw.

Like you’ve been “on” for so long that you don’t actually know how to switch off anymore.

And the frustrating part is most people around you probably think you’re doing completely fine.

RESET is for the woman who’s tired of carrying pressure internally while looking capable externally.

This isn’t a motivational talk.
And it’s not one of those workshops where you sit there listening for 2 hours.

It’s a small guided experience where we work with what’s underneath the overthinking, stress and emotional exhaustion.

The goal is simple:
to help you finally exhale.

To leave feeling clearer in your mind, calmer in your body and more like yourself again.

The role made sense once.
It helped you belong. It helped you cope.
But you’re allowed to ask-
Is this still mine to carry?
