Cranky, clingy, off their food… every parent's first guess is "overtired." But sometimes it's the first sign of something brewing πŸ‘€

Fever creeping up, complaining about a sore throat, scratching at a rash that wasn't there yesterday β€” kids often can't tell you what's wrong, so the small stuff is the stuff worth watching.

Trust your gut. If something feels off for more than a day or two, it's always okay to get it checked 🩺

🧼 One simple habit can make a big difference.

Teaching children proper handwashing habits helps reduce the spread of germs and infections at home, school and childcare.

Some simple reminders:
βœ“ Wash hands before meals
βœ“ Wash hands after using the toilet
βœ“ Wash hands after coughing, sneezing or blowing their nose

Did you know that proper handwashing can reduce respiratory illnesses by up to 21%?

Building healthy habits early can help protect your child and those around them.

β€’ Headache
β€’ Body aches
β€’ Nausea
β€’ A widespread rash

Knowing the difference can help you decide when it's time to seek medical attention.

Let's talk about poo πŸ’©

One of the most common questions parents ask is:

"How often should my child be pooping?"

The answer may surprise you.

Some children pass stools several times a day, while others may only go once every few days.

What's more important than frequency is whether the stool is:
βœ“ Soft
βœ“ Easy to pass
βœ“ Comfortable for your child

It may be worth seeking medical advice if your child has:
🚩 Hard, painful stools
🚩 Blood in the stool
🚩 Ongoing constipation
🚩 Abdominal pain
🚩 Withholding behaviour (trying not to poo)

Constipation is common in children and can often be improved with simple lifestyle and dietary changes.

Many childhood rashes are harmless and improve on their own.

Common causes include:
🌑️ Heat rash
🦠 Viral rash
🌿 Eczema

Heat rash is especially common in Singapore's hot and humid weather. It often appears as small red bumps on the neck, chest, back or skin folds and usually improves with cooler clothing and keeping the skin dry.

However, some rashes should be reviewed by a doctor, especially if they are accompanied by:
🚩 Fever
🚩 Breathing difficulty
🚩 Severe pain
🚩 Rapidly spreading rash
🚩 A child who looks unusually unwell

Swipe through for a quick guide to common childhood rashes and when to seek medical attention.

My child has a fever. Could it be dengue?

Dengue often starts with a sudden high fever and may be accompanied by:

β€’ Headache
β€’ Body aches
β€’ Nausea or vomiting
β€’ Rash (which may appear a few days later)

Not every fever is dengue. Many childhood fevers are caused by common viral infections.

However, if your child has persistent high fever, seems unusually tired, is drinking poorly, or you're concerned, it's worth seeking medical advice.
