ℹ️🌿 EMBODIMENT IN TRAUMA RECOVERY |

Embodiment is as an active process of self-discovery that you renew and strengthen by repeatedly attending to your sensations, emotions, and instinctual movement impulses. Mindful body-awareness practices help you learn to sustain the focus of your attention on how your body feels or moves in the present moment.

Embodiment in trauma recovery involves setting aside time to focus your attention on your breath and body sensations as related to traumatic events. The earliest forms of trauma can lead us to disconnect from our bodies in order to feel safe, retreating into thought, or seeking refuge in spiritual spaces.

While these adaptations once protected us, they can later make it hard to feel grounded, present, and connected in real time.

NARM helps us gently reconnect with our bodies and sense of self at a pace that feels manageable.

ℹ️🌿 PEOPLE-PLEASING AS A SURVIVAL STRATEGY: A RELATIONAL REFRAME |

"People-pleasing" is often spoken about like it’s a flaw – something to correct, unlearn, or pathologize. But in my work – and my heart – I see something else entirely.

I see people-pleasing as a wise, embodied survival strategy, not a character flaw. It is often formed early in life, in response to uncertain connection, unmet emotional needs, or the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) cost of not feeling like we are “easy” to love.

At its root, people-pleasing is a longing to belong. A yearning for safety, for closeness, for a continued relationship.

Love this discussion on belonging. When we try to fit in and please others, we betray ourselves and paradoxically, stop belonging in that instance.
