Ear infections are common during swimming season, but knowing when to seek medical attention can help prevent complications.🏊

If your child has severe ear pain, fever, ear discharge, hearing changes, balance problems, or symptoms that last more than a couple of days, it's time to have their ears checked. While some mild irritation may settle on its own, persistent or worsening symptoms shouldn't be ignored.

🩺Early diagnosis and treatment can help relieve discomfort, clear the infection, and get your child back to enjoying the holidays.

Cleaning your ears with a cotton bud might feel satisfying, but it can do more harm than good. 🙅

Cotton buds often push wax deeper into the ear canal and can scratch the delicate skin inside the ear, increasing the risk of irritation and infection.

Your ears are designed to clean themselves naturally, moving wax and dead skin outward without the need for manual cleaning.

This is especially important during swimming season, when trapped moisture and tiny scratches can make it easier for bacteria or fungi to enter the ear.

Does your child complain of itchy or sore ears after a swim? It could be swimmer's ear, an infection that's more common during the school holidays when little ones spend extra time in the water. 👂💧

It happens when water gets trapped in the ear canal, creating the perfect environment for bacteria or fungi to grow, especially in Singapore's humid climate.

If your child's ears are bothering them, don't wait it out, reach out to an ENT specialist.

Swimming season is here! 🏊 But all that fun in the water can sometimes lead to swimmer's ear, a common infection that pops up when moisture gets trapped in little ears.

Keep an eye out for symptoms like itching, ear pain, a blocked feeling, or discomfort when touching the outer ear.

Feeling a burning, blocked, or irritated nose when you're outdoors? 🌤️👃

Singapore’s heat, humidity, air-conditioning, and occasional haze can be tough on sensitive nasal passages, especially if you have allergies or sinus issues.

Understanding what affects your nasal health is the first step towards better symptom control and everyday comfort. If you frequently experience nasal irritation, congestion, or sinus discomfort, an ENT specialist can help identify the underlying causes and recommend appropriate treatment options.

What does a week in an ENT clinic look like? 🤔

Last week, Neil Nair, a Grade 10 student from UWC South East Asia (East Campus), joined us for a work attachment through the school's World of Learning programme.

Throughout the week, Neil shadowed our ENT specialists, observed patient consultations, and learned more about conditions affecting the ear, nose and throat. He also gained insight into the many people who work behind the scenes to ensure patients receive the best possible care. 🫶🏻

We're always happy to open our doors to curious young minds and share what healthcare is really about, not just medicine, but also teamwork, empathy and making a difference in patients' lives. Thank you for spending the week with us, Neil! ✨
