"Children with high screen exposure were more likely to be reported to communicate poorly by their parents.

These children were less likely to show interest in other children by watching them, smiling at them or going up to them. They were also less likely to bring things to show their parents or hold things up for them to acknowledge.

They might also not respond to their names being called by looking up, talking, babbling or stopping what they are doing."

Research indicates that early diagnosis and interventions for autism can lead to significant long-term improvements in symptom management and the development of future skills.

"Such measures can include speech therapy, occupational therapy, social skills training, sensory integration therapy, visual aids, structured routines, individualised education plans, family therapy, and providing a calm and predictable environment."

There are no treatments or cures for autism, nor can it be reversed. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.

For individuals with autism, the sensory challenges of public transport - such as loud noises and crowded spaces - can easily lead to overwhelming anxiety, turning a simple trip into a stressful experience. 😣

With these challenges in mind, we collaborated with the Land Transport Authority – We Keep Your World Moving to trial a Sensory Tool Kit at some of our bus interchanges and MRT stations to help passengers with autism manage sensory overload. 🚍🚇

Each kit 🧩 is equipped with a variety of items designed to help them calm down, like earmuffs, visual timers, interactive books, and fidget tools. Passengers with autism and/or their caregivers can approach our staff at the Passenger Service Centre to borrow the Sensory Tool Kit or items at no charge. Don't forget to return the kit to the same interchange or station where you borrowed it! 🙏

We've also partnered with the St. Andrew's Autism Centre 🤝 to train our frontline staff in autism awareness, empowering them to support passengers with autism who may be experiencing distress, with care and confidence.
