Today, May 24, the world marks Schizophrenia Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising public understanding about mental health conditions that affect millions of people around the world.

The purpose of this day is to break down the walls of ignorance and stigma, while building a more understanding and supportive community for people living with schizophrenia.

As the Brain Story team , we are pleased to share with you an awareness video to help promote knowledge and understanding of schizophrenia within the our Somali community.

On May 20th, our leadership team at Brain Story had the honor of meeting with representatives from Korea International Cooperation Agency and our partners at United Nations Development Programme - UNDP to discuss collaboration, community resilience, mental health, and sustainable development initiatives in Somalia.

The meeting was led by Dr. Aisha Haji, CEO, Founder & Executive Director of Brain Story, accompanied by COO/Program Director Mohammed A. Elmi and Abdullahi Moallim, Chief Financial Officer.

We are grateful for the opportunity to share Brain Story’s vision and ongoing work in trauma healing, psychosocial support, youth empowerment, and community resilience across Somalia.

We look forward to strengthening partnerships that invest in healing, dignity, and sustainable futures for Somali communities.

“Survival is not always the same as healing.”

We recently had the honor of participating in a powerful lecture and panel discussion on Somali Lifestyle and Mental Health organized by YouthVibe.

The conversation explored resilience, emotional silence, intergenerational trauma, youth pressures, faith, healing, and the urgent need to normalize mental health conversations within Somali society.

One message stood out clearly:
A generation that heals can rebuild nations.

Thank you to everyone who participated, shared reflections, and helped create a safe space for honest dialogue and growth. The future of Somalia depends not only on survival, but on healing, understanding, and emotionally healthy youth.
