There is a second wave of cholera outbreaks in Ayod County.
One of the county's health officials told the that they have recorded 625 cases, and 30+ death cases were registered in Ayod County in general.
The most targeted areas cited for cholera are:
1. Paguong payam
2. Jiech boma.
3. Paleny Village
4. Mogok payam
6. Pagil payam
7. Nornayng payam.
These areas are along the Jonglei Canal, where the civilians are drinking unsafe water from the canal. There is a need for immediate intervention to save the lives of thousands of people, both displaced persons and host communities, by agencies supporting cholera in South Sudan. CMD is trying to respond to the cholera but only targeting the SC nutrition sites both in Ayod South and Ayod North. The local authorities and community are calling for Mรฉdecins Sans Frontiรจres / MSF, the World Health Organization (WHO), and UNICEF to intervene urgently in Ayod County as the rainy season approaches, when the majority of people will drink unsafe groundwater.
