Question:
I want to practice meditation.
I want to encourage myself, but my mind doesn't support it. When the time it takes to truly reach that point, to truly observe and focus. The mind doesn't cooperate or help. When I sit in the same position for a long time, I feel suffering.
So I have to shift and move around.
Answer:
This makes you realize the truth that:
- if you could control it,
- if you could control the suffering,
- then you could control it to be happy,
- you wouldn't have to keep changing.
But you can't control it, that's the reality.
If you are aware of this, there is no "self" to suffer.
There is only feeling experiencing the sensation. Reality doesn't lie.
What you have to is:
- If someone's mind is wandering, let it wander. Observe it.
- When it's calm, let it be calm. Be still, be indifferent. Be aware of the calm mind and the restless mind.
The Buddha taught us to observe.
He taught us to be aware of the state of things as they are, as they are happening.
So we won't get attached or cling to them.
