You ask, we answer. Hair & Scalp Health FAQ:
“What is ketoconazole, and should I be using it?”
Ketoconazole is an antifungal medication commonly found in medicated shampoos. It is primarily used to help manage dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, itching, flaking, and other scalp symptoms associated with an overgrowth of yeast.
However, ketoconazole is not a general hair-growth shampoo, and it is not necessary for every patient.
It may be beneficial if you have persistent dandruff, scalp irritation, excessive flaking, or a diagnosed scalp condition. Its main role is to improve and maintain scalp health rather than directly treat the underlying cause of pattern hair loss.
When appropriate, ketoconazole shampoo is usually used for a limited treatment period and then less frequently for maintenance. The correct strength, frequency, and duration should always be determined according to your scalp condition and medical advice.
At Pure Line Clinic, we do not recommend treatments automatically. We first assess the scalp, identify the underlying problem, and recommend products only when they have a clear purpose in the patient’s individual treatment plan.
A healthy scalp creates a better environment for both existing and transplanted hair, but every treatment should be targeted, personalized, and medically appropriate.
