Different contexts. Common aspirations. 💙🌍

Today, we celebrate young people, their voices, their dreams and their resilience. Let’s champion youth development, protect mental health, and create spaces where every young person can be heard, supported and thrive.

Happy International Youth Day 2026! 💙💛

Today, Trinidad and Tobago commemorates African Emancipation Day. ❤️🇹🇹

A day to honour the courage, strength, and resilience of those who endured the struggle for freedom and to reflect on the lasting impact of that journey on our nation’s identity.

This day reminds us of the importance of freedom, justice, equality, and the preservation of culture and heritage. It calls us to acknowledge the sacrifices of the past while continuing to build a society grounded in respect, unity, and collective progress.

From a psychological perspective, understanding our history strengthens identity, belonging, and resilience. When we recognise the experiences that have shaped communities, we create greater empathy, connection, and awareness of the strength found in overcoming adversity.

May this powerful day inspire reflection, unity, healing, and a continued commitment to building a Trinidad and Tobago where respect, compassion, and shared humanity guide our journey forward.

😍

Another year of doing what I love.

Holding stories with care, honoring journeys with confidentiality, and witnessing the quiet courage it takes to heal.

A privilege to walk beside others as they find strength, rediscover themselves, and transform pain into possibility.

Here’s to another year of purpose, compassion, and the beauty of the human mind. 🤍

🧠 SEA Results Day: A Psychological Reminder for Parents & Guardians

This day is not just about results - it is about how children are held emotionally through those results. The way adults respond in this moment can shape a child’s confidence, identity, and sense of worth long after SEA is over.

“The way you respond today can strengthen your child’s confidence for years to come.”

As we prepare for SEA results to be released across Trinidad and Tobago, many children and families are entering a highly emotional moment filled with anticipation, pressure, and public attention.

From a psychological perspective, this is a sensitive emotional experience for a child’s developing self-esteem.

Here are important reminders for parents and guardians:

1. Your reaction becomes their inner voice.
Children often remember how adults responded more than the result itself.
Stay calm, steady, and supportive - regardless of outcome.

2. Protect their dignity in public spaces
SEA results in our culture often invite questions and comparison. However, your child is not a public discussion.

It is okay to say:
“We are keeping that private for now.”

Boundaries are healthy, not disrespectful.

3. Avoid comparison at all costs
Comparing children - whether to siblings, classmates, or neighbours - can have a lasting emotional impact.
Every child’s learning journey is unique.

4. Focus on effort, not ranking
A result reflects a placement, not a child’s worth, intelligence, or future success.

Reinforce:
“I am proud of your effort and growth.”

5. Be mindful of emotional reactions
Joy, disappointment, or silence - all are valid responses.

What matters most is:
Presence
Understanding
Support without pressure

6. If the outcome is not expected, pause before reacting
A difficult result is not a moment for criticism or disappointment statements.

It is a moment for reassurance:
“We will figure out the next steps together.”

In emotionally charged moments like these, children do not only need celebration of success - they need emotional safety in every outcome.

Let this be a day where dignity, compassion, and support lead the conversation.

To every single child we are proud of you and remember you are so deeply loved 🤍

🧠 Reminder for Mental Health Professionals

Ethical practice extends beyond client care - it includes the sustained care of the practitioner.

Maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and responsibility in this work requires emotional regulation, sound judgment, and psychological presence. These are not infinite resources.

Self-care is therefore not optional; it is an ethical responsibility that supports safe, effective, and competent practice. Without adequate rest, reflection, supervision, and personal boundaries, the quality of care is compromised.

Confidential care for others must be matched by intentional care for self.

- A reminder for sustainable practice

"There is no timeline for grief. Take each day as it comes and give yourself grace."

As a psychologist, I've supported many individuals through the painful journey of loss. As someone who has also experienced grief on multiple occasions, I know that healing is not linear. Some days are filled with strength and acceptance, while others may feel heavy with memories and longing.

Grief looks different for everyone, and there is no "right" way or set timeline to move through it. What matters is allowing yourself the space to feel, to heal, and to be kind to yourself along the way.

If you are grieving, remember: it is okay to take things one day at a time. Give yourself the same compassion you would offer to someone you love.
