As her husband remains remanded at Luzira, we urge the authorities and courts to immediately exercise the available legal leeway for remand prisoners — court-ordered temporary release or bail relaxation on humanitarian grounds such as the death of a close family member. Officials should not show that this legal leeway is applied selectively only to their own.

This basic human decency must not be denied.
