To Every Mother Who Dared to Hope
A Mother's Day Message from the Gertrude Memorial Family of Organisations
We did not arrive at finance by accident. We arrived by listening — to mothers.

At Gertrude Memorial Community Health Centre (GMCHC), we have sat with women through their most vulnerable hours — at the bedside of labour, in the quiet courage of a safe delivery, in the tears of relief that follow a healthy child's first cry. We have seen what a woman carries: not just a child, but a family, a community, a future.
And we learned something sacred in those moments: a mother's struggle does not end at the clinic door. She walks home to fields she cannot afford to tend, to a business she cannot afford to start, to a dream she cannot afford to chase — not because she lacks will, but because she lacks access.

That is why we built Gertrude Memorial Rural Finance Initiative (GMRFI) — because caring for a mother's health and ignoring her economic dignity is only half a mission. She deserves wholeness.
Today, on this Mother's Day, we announce with joy and gratitude that the GMRFI offices — fully built, standing proud in Kitagwenda — are ready to open their doors to the rural women of Rwenjaza, Nyabbani, Kanara, and beyond. A building raised not in stone alone, but in hope, sacrifice, and the unshakeable belief that every woman deserves a chance to rise. The wait is nearly over.

To every mother who laboured in the night and still rose at dawn — to every woman who gave without being asked — and to every champion who stood beside them:
Happy Mother's Day. You are the reason we do this.

WOMEN SOCIALISATION- EMPOWERMENT

Women gathering isn't just trivial or purely social but it's a fundamental human need that carries much significant importances like emotional & psychological wellbeing, shared experience & solidarity, knowledge sharing & mentorship, collective power & social change, countering isolation and not forgetting cultural & spiritual dimensions.

Gertrude continued enthusiasm of Women first continues to grow in all communities that we serve ranging from affordable Healthcare, Financial empowerment, Sustainable agriculture / Food security and Education to the most underprivileged.

Rural financing especially for women is a critical issue that intersects economic development, gender equity and poverty reduction.

Women in rural areas face distinct barriers to accessing finance, these include lack of collateral (since most women don't own land or property in their own names to use as collateral), limited financial literacy, cultural restrictions on mobility and economic participation and bias from financial institutions. Many rural women work in the informal economy, small scale farming, livestock and crafts which makes them appear risky to traditional lenders despite often having excellent repayment rates.

The above brief analysis is the reason why Gertrude Memorial Community Relief, a community based grassroot non profit organization that champions health, education and social economic development that was founded in memory of Mama Gertrude is bringing this initiative to help rural women, the Gertrude Memorial Rural Finance Initiative.

It matters so much because when women access finance, the benefits multiply throughout communities. Research consistently shows that women invest heavily in their children's Education, Nutrition and Health. They tend to use these small loans productively, have strong repayment records and reinvest these profits back into their households and businesses, this also economically empowers them to gain decision making power within their families and communities.

Dear friends, this isn't an easy journey at all but with God, Gertrude will shine, from Health, Education and now Finance as a social Economic Development Project.

Attached is the official logo, Building Plan (already started construction) and will be open in a few months, God willing.

Successfully held our Quarterly Evaluation Meeting with some of our Village Health Team members (VHTs) at our youngest project!

This team helps us to mobilize some of our activities like the Health camps and Outreaches, Community Health Dialogues, Referrals and tracking feedbacks from communities willingly and voluntarily without any serious pay.

We are glad as management for the already visible results from these elders' efforts, May God bless them!

A great woman, Rural Women / Girls' Health Care champion and enthusiast, a generous and compassionate friend turns 66 today!

Dear Katherine Cassidy, Thank you for your immense contribution towards re-imagining rural health care most especially in my community which has not only contributed to healthy lives, but general Human Integra Development as regards our People's mindset change and critical attitude towards Education and Socio-economic affairs.

On behalf of all at Gertrude Memorial Community Relief, our communities and all that have / continue to benefit from our initiative write to you in Thanksgiving to the Almighty for your healthy life at 66 and wish you the very best in the days ahead, May you live to see all your dreams come true and thank you for living a full life, Happiest Birthday Once More!

GERTRUDE - MENSTRUAL HEALTH PROGRAM

Drawing from our aspirations for being a better place for women and girls in our communities, The Gertrude Memorial Community Relief through her friends and partners made consultations, thorough research and soliciting for support mainly for restructuring the pads workshop, sewing machines and materials and a motorbike to ease movements, We decided to promote this program because of 2 simple reasons;-

1. To educate, empower and uplift every woman / girl's health since menstrual hygiene is a human right.

2. Menstruation is a natural process and not a gender issue, We are therefore breaking the stigma so that our women and girls can have a pain free period by being clean and hygienic.

We intend to do this by making re-usable sanitary pads, then move to schools, communities and other social gatherings to create awareness, teach, demonstrate and equip these target groups with knowledge and kits.

Our much gratitude goes to the great friends who believe in the power of a woman / girl child because these are the true mothers of our Nation.
