Bishop Acur Okodi urgues for team work, excellent medical service at first LRRH Inaugural Prayer Breakfast
The Bishop Emeritus of Diocese of West Lango, Alfred Acur Okodi, has urged health workers and administrators to embrace teamwork and strive for excellence in service delivery.
While Speaking as the main celebrant today Wednessday 17th June 2026, during the inaugural Prayer Breakfast held at Lira Regional Referral Hospital parking yard, Bishop Acur who is also the Anglican Community chaplain commended the hospital director and staff for their dedication, but challenged them to work together more closely in addressing inefficiencies and improving patient care.
Bishop Okodi emphasized that medical professionals are called by God to lead the restoration of health and should use their God-given abilities to positively influence patient outcomes. He stressed that no single individual can transform the hospital alone, but that success depends on the collective efforts of doctors, nurses, administrators, and religious leaders working in unity.
The General Secretary of Lango Religious Leaders Forum, Rev. Thomas Obong in his remarks said no one is a hero alone but that people must work to celebrate everyone and to accomplish the task that is before us.
In his remarks, the Acting Director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital Dr Andrew Odur, says the idea of the prayer breakfast was initiated by the members of the top management as a way of not only thanking God for the strides the hospital has made but also to reflect and dedicate the staff to God as we enter the new financial year 2026/27, so that they serve people.
“Ladies and gentlemen, a hospital like this that has existed for more than 100years, has had several experiences like growth in the number of staff, improvement in infrastructure and a strengthened health system” remarked the Hospital Director.
Dr Odur says, the Hospital is in the trajectory of becoming one of the best Hospitals in the Country and encouraged the staff to work diligently in order to ensure the Hospital achieves the desired goal in line with Ministry of Health policies.
He noted that despite the increase in the annual output of the Hospital like more than 300,000 laboratory tests, more than 10,000 surgical operations performed and over 200 sessions of Dialysis services monthly amongst others; we still need a more organized health work force.
"I was so happy to learn that we have been able to save three out of five very critically ill patients who would otherwise be declared dead have walked home alive and happy from our newly functionalized ICU.
“The message we wish that you continue to give to the public is that this hospital is on a trajectory to become the best in the country. And we want that you join hands with us on the spiritual side, but also leaders in the community, so that we position the hospital with an advantage over others in this country” said Dr. Odur.
The prayer breakfast which was held under the theme: “Delivering Quality Healthcare through hard work and compassion” was attended by staff and graced by Religious Leaders in Lango, under their umbrella body of Lango Religious Leaders Forum which was represented by their General Secretary Rev.Thomas Obong of Baptist Church.
By 8am , the committed staff had already settled at the prayer venue, with a jovial mood and singing songs of praise as the men of God arrived.
Among the religious leaders who graced today’s maiden prayer breakfast include; Bishop Emeritus of Diocese of West Lango, Rt.Rev. Alfred Alex Acur Okodi who is the Hospital Anglican Chaplain, Rev.Fr.Dr.Peter Clever Ongom, the Catholic Community Chaplain, Rev Silvanus Ogwal of Pentecostal Assembly of God- Lira Pastorate, Supreme Kadthi of Lango Supreme Muslim District Administration Sheik Yusuf Balinda, Prof Opio Okaka Dokotum and Senior Pastor from PAG City Church , Paul Egwar.
