Everybody wants to know what they can TAKE to support their immune system. Supplements and other supports can absolutely serve a purpose, buy my first question is always gonna be -> how well is your nervous system running and gunning?

Your nervous system + immune system are in constant cahoots. Together, they help your body recognize what's happening around and within you, determine what deserves a response, and coordinate that response.

We don't necessarily want MORE immune activity. We want an APPROPRIATE immune response. Not overreacting. Not underreacting. Responding appropriately.

Getting sick occasionally isn't necessarily a sign that your body is failing. It's part of being human. But when illness is frequent, unusually severe, or recovery seems to take forever, there's salt to that.

God designed our bodies with incredible capacity to recognize, respond, recover, and adapt. Let's support our families to operate within that framework đź’ś

Your posture is NOT a report card on your discipline. It doesn’t tell me whether you “sit up straight enough,” have enough willpower, or just need to try harder/ do better.

It gives us information. Heck, it IS the information. For big people, posture can give us a window into how hard the body is working to hold itself upright, organize against gravity, and move through the world. For little people, that's wicked important, too. Things like persistent W-sitting, collapsing into certain positions, or always choosing the same posture can give us clues about how easily (or how inefficiently) their nervous system is coordinating their body against gravity.

Not just can you sit up straighter? -> but, how much work does your body have to do to get there?

When upright posture feels easy and natural, the body can spend less energy just trying to stand upright. So yes, posture matters. But posture isn’t typically thee thing to correct.

It’s a window into what may be happening under the hood....in kiddos and grown-ups alike.

A day in the life!

You don’t get adjusted so nothing ever overwhelms + maxes out your system again. You get adjusted so your system can handle stress differently.

The goal isn’t to create a body that never gets tired, overwhelmed, tense, challenged, or thrown off. The goal is to build capacity. Resiliency. Adaptability.

I promise you didn’t “undo” your adjustment because you worked out, carried your toddler, slept weird, had a stressful day, traveled, sat at your desk, or went out into the wild and lived your actual life.

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.

I'm not adjusting you so you can protect the adjustment. We’re adjusting you so you can show up differently in your life. With YOU as the hero.

Little different than the traditional medical model, eh? đź’ś

Some of my favorite kiddos to work with are the ones who have been labeled “naughty.” The ones who can’t sit still. The ones who melt down fast. The ones who struggle with transitions, listening, hitting, biting, yelling, or keeping it together at school, home, church, or sports.

My experience has been very often that what looks like they won’t is actually they can’t right now.

A nervous system carrying a lot of stress and tension has less capacity for frustration, stimulation, transitions, disappointment, noise, demands, and all the other things we ask kids to navigate every single day.

What happens when that system starts carrying less?

School gets easier.
Bedtime gets smoother.
Meltdowns get shorter.
They recover faster.
They handle “no” better.
They just seem more like themselves.

Kids still need boundaries. They still need parenting. They still have big feelings and hard days. Let's be honest- adults do, too.

Before we decide a child is difficult, defiant, or just needs more discipline, I think there’s another question worth asking -> how hard is their body working just to get through the day?

Behavior is output. Change the input -> affect the output. Simple math đź’ś

Same mom. Same baby. Less than 10 minutes apart. I did NOT tell her to stand up straighter but you can totally see the changes that unfolded post-adjustment

Her head comes back over her shoulders. Her neck looks less compressed. Her shoulders soften. Her chest opens. Her upper body isn't being pulled as far forward, and her pelvis looks more stacked underneath her. And đź‘€ at that bump! Before, her belly projects almost straight out in front of her. There's a sense of her whole body holding and bracing around the pregnancy.

Afterwards-> the bump softens. It hangs more naturally. Same mama. Same baby. Same belly. Just less tension being held around it. Which only happens when the tone and tension in the whole nervous system lessens.

THAT is what I want people to understand about prenatal Chiropractic care. I'm not trying to teach pregnant women how to have "better posture." Pregnancy is asking her body to adapt every single day as her center of gravity changes, tissues change, baby grows, and her nervous system coordinates all of it.

My job is to look for where her body may be carrying unnecessary stress and tension and help give her system an opportunity to find a little more ease. That very often means she feels different. And almost always you can actually see her body stop working so dang hard.

Not magic, just supported physiology đź’ś

95% of today probs looks almost exactly like yesterday. Same alarm. Same coffee. Same drive. Same work. Same kids. Same bedtime routine.

And because life looks the same, it’s incredibly easy to assume we’re the same, too. But what if you’re sleeping better? What if your patience has changed? What if digestion feels different? What if that thing that used to bother you every single day… hasn’t?

Or on the flip side…What if you’re waking up a little more tired? Holding a little more tension? Getting irritated a little faster? Moving a little less freely? Needing more and more to feel “normal”?

Most changes are sneaky sneaky. They creep in. And if we’re not checking in, we can miss progress and we can miss the slow accumulation of stress.

Exactly why I think body awareness is one of our greatest superpowers. For the folks getting adjusted at Abode, sometimes I’m asking questions because I want you to recognize the changes your body has already made, not just wait for the 1 symptom you came in with to disappear.

And for the people who feel like everything is “fine”… I’d challenge you to get curious about what fine actually feels like ->
How are you sleeping?
How’s your energy?
How’s your digestion?
How are you handling stress?
How does your body feel when you move?
What’s easier than it used to be?
What’s harder?

Sometimes the change you’ve been hoping for is already happening.

And sometimes the thing you’ve gotten used to living with has slowly become your normal. Either way, you HAVE to notice first 💜
