Finding a q***r-affirming therapist can feel overwhelming — especially if you have had experiences where you spent half the session explaining your relationship before the actual work could begin.
Here is what to actually look for:
A genuinely q***r-affirming therapist uses your pronouns and your partner's name correctly without being reminded every session.
They don't treat your q***r identity as either a problem to fix or the only lens they look through.
They apply evidence-based frameworks — like the Gottman Method — with awareness of how those approaches fit q***r couples and families, not just the populations those methods were originally designed for.
They understand that q***r grief is a real clinical concept: grief over chosen family loss, coming out in later life, or relational trauma that mainstream frameworks often miss.
When you name something hard, they don't minimize it by saying everyone feels that way sometimes.
You deserve care that holds the full picture of who you are.
At Brain & Heart Healing in Abilene, TX, we are a q***r-affirming practice currently accepting new clients — individuals, couples, and families.
