Juicing for Health and Detoxification

Every day the human body is exposed to multiple toxins, environmental and endogenous- made in the body due to bacterial or viral infections. Common toxins include heavy metals (cadmium, lead, mercury), pesticides, herbicides.
When not eliminated by the body natural detoxification system, toxins can accumulate in the tissues rich in fat, such as brain, fat tissue, liver and damage them. Supporting detoxification through the diet is very important. If you eat food with high content of fiber and use juices, you are doing good job for your body helping in the process of detoxification. Toxins can go through cell membrane and interfere with normal DNA function, protein metabolism and cause multiple problems. Scientific evidence confirms that certain food can effect toxin metabolism and detoxification process. These foods are: berries, cruciferous family including cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, kale, also garlic, onion, turmeric, radishes, hawthorn, citrus fruits, chicory, pomegranate, beets, rosemary, ginger, apples. The more alkaline the body, the more efficient detoxification will go. So diet high in fruits, vegetables with high content of fiber and alkaline nutrients will be very beneficient for the body.
I want to recommend some simple juices that will be good addition to your everyday rutine. In his book Food that Heal Dr. Bernard Jencen recommended some simple combination for jucing which really work.
Carrots, celery & parsley juice is good just for everybody and especially needed for arthritis.
Parsley, blackberry, carrots, grapes juice is good for anemia.
Celery and papaya, celery and carrots, endive is good for the asthma.
For high blood pressure juice from celery, beets, parsley, carrots is recommended.
For poor circulation- juice of beets and blackberry, also pineapple, parsley and alfalfacombo. For colds and sinus is good juice of celery and grapefruit, also apple and watercress.
For Constipation juice from celery, spinach and grapefruit will help.
For diarrhea- carrot and blackberry juice.
For gout- juice from celery and parsley.
For gall bladder problems will help juice from radish, prune, black cherry and celery, also juice made from carrots, cucumbers and beets.
For heart- carrots and pineapple juice with honey, parsley, pineapple and alfalfa.
For liver- radish and pineapple juice; carrots, beets and cucumber juice.

For kidneys celery, parsley and asparagus juice; carrots and parsley juice.
For insomnia- lettuce and celery juice.

GMO and how to avoid it.

Today I would like to give you some information about genetically modified organisms -GMO. Genetic modification of different plants, crops were used for many years in order to create more resistance toward insects or weather. Today, GMO made differently and have ability to interfere normal expression of our genes that may cause cancer, cardio-vascular disease, chronic inflammation. There is list of more common GMO:
1.Soy was genetically modified in 1996 and to 2011, 94% of all soybeans in USA were GMO. I am talking about not organic soy. You can find GMO soy in tofu, soy sauces, miso, tempeh, in lecithin which used in ice cream and candy.
2.Cotton seed was genetically modified in 1996 and to 2011, 90% of all cotton crop in USA was GMO. Beside making cotton fabric, cotton seed used for production of cottonseed oil which used in margarine, salad dressings, and for frying potato chips and other snacks.
3.Corn was genetically modified in 1996 and to 2011 88% of all corn crop in the USA was GMO. You can meet corn in breakfast cereals, corn flour products, as a high fructose corn syrup in yogurts, snacks, soups.
4. Canola oil was modified in 1996 and to 2010 90% of all USA canola crop was GMO. There is no such plant as canola, it is abbreviation for Canadian Oil Low Acidity. This oil was derived from rapeseed plant which genetically modified.
5 .Papaya was genetically modified in1998 and 80% of USA papaya was GMO in 2010.So, try to buy papaya not grown in USA.
6. Sugar beets were genetically modified in 2005 and to 2009 , 95% of all sugar beets in the USA were GMO. Try to buy sugar made from cane, not beets.
7. Milk was modified in 1994, synthetic bovine growth hormone was injected in dairy cows to boost milk production. Look for organic milk and dairy products, they do not have hormones and antibiotics.
8. Aspartame was made from genetically modified microorganisms in 1965 and can be under name of Equal, Nutrasweet. It is found in the more then 6,000 different products including Diet Soda and is really NeuroTOXIN.

Make yourself more responsible for your own health, it is in your hands what do buy. Buying organic, local produce or growing your own is the best choice.

In a previous post I talk about osteoporosis and osteopenia and what can be done to help. Our bones need not only calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, they need boron,, manganese, Vitamin D3, zinc, silica, vitamin K2. There are food that can give you all those minerals. Good sources of Magnesium are: milk, meat, nuts, sea food, rice and black strap molasses. Manganese present in avocado, buckwheat, pecans, seeds, hazelnuts, sea w**d. Boron present in fruits and vegetables and silica - in herb Horsetail.
Also a lot of zinc in liver, eggs, beans, meat, whole grains and fish.
Vitamiin D3 we can find under the sun and in butter, cream and fat fish.
Very small amounts of Vitamin K2 can be found in organ meats and realistically should be taken in supplementation with D3. And, at last, good sources of Calcium are in dairy, green leafy vegetables. Vitamin D3 drives calcium from the blood to the bone, which is very important, since calcium from the blood may go to the lining of blood vessels, ligaments and tendons and create a lot of trouble. So, for good bone metabolism, combination of all these minerals is needed. Life Extension has such supplement. Bone Restore has Calcium, Magnesium, Boron, Manganese, Silica and Zink and goes with two different doses of Vitamin K2.

Osteopenia and Osteoporosis

Do you know that if you have osteopenia or even osteoporosis you can take specific supplements and help yourself without meds? When we getting older, we have tendency to lose bone mass, so bone become less strong. To prevent this and any possible future fractures, we can do coupe things: go for a walk with light weight, do regular exercises, eat food that will help to replenish lost minerals in the bones and take those minerals in bioavailable form of supplements.
Our bone consists of 10% water, 70% Calcium, Magnesium and Phosphorus and 20% organic matter which is 95% -collagen type I and 5% - bone cells.
There are several types of collagen, we need type I for bones, skin, joints nails and collagen type III for the skin , muscles and lining of the blood vessels.
There are many collagen supplements on the market, I would recommend Nativepath Grass - Fed Collagen which has type I and type III. It is a powder, you can add it to water, juice, coffee, tea.

Lithium Protects the Brain

Lithium is a mineral found in the earth's crust and in many natural bodies of water, also in small amounts in eggs, grains, milk, vegetables.
Large doses of lithium have long been used to treat bipolar disorders.
Some studies have found that bipolar patients on lithium therapy
have lower rates of cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia then those not on lithium.
Lithium works in a variety of ways to help the brain produce new neurons and to prevent the buildup of plaques seen in the brains of Alzheimer's patients.
Human studies demonstrated that microdoses of lithium improve cognitive function and memory in patients with mild cognitive impairment, and decrease cognitive decline in patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Nutrients Strengthen the Immune System Against Viral Infections

As a result of multiple studies, scientists came to the conclusion that some nutrients can help immune system to fight viral infections. Those nutrients are: proteins, Omega-3 fatty acid, vitamins A,B,C,D,E, iron and zinc.
Among the mechanisms discussed are:
The role of proteins in the immune system's antiviral action
Vitamin A's involvement in maintaining mucosal integrity ( upper respiratory tract 's mucosa is the first line of defense).
Vitamin's C anti-inflammatory effect
Vitamin D-associated reduction of viral replication rates and inflammatory cytokine levels.
Vitamin E ability to help maintain T- cell ( active cells produced by thymus) membrane integrity.
Zinc's ability to impair viral replication.
Life Extension company produces all these supplements, if you want to talk about it or order them, email me at [email protected].

You can use these supplements as a Immune Support for Quick Recovery:
Zinc lozenges reduce the duration of colds and flu by 44% and the severity of the symptoms by as much as 50% when initiated soon after symptoms first appear.
Elderberry extract resolves upper respiratory symptoms up to four days earlier than a placebo.
Vitamin C can reduce the duration of colds and flu by 9.4% and by 18% in children.
Zinc, elderberry, vitamin C may reduce the impact of cold or flu, helping you recover and get back on your feet faster.

Hi everybody,
I am happy to say that I started to see patients and my phone is fixed, so you can call me at 215-274-5344. As I indicated several months ago, it is important to eat well and take supplements to sustain your immune system, especially in this time. I will recommend specific foods and supplements when we meet. Today, I want to post recipe from Blue Zones Kitchen book, all these recipes found in places where people live longer then average person and famous by good health, such as Sardinia in Italy, Okinawa in Japan, Ikaria in Greece, Nicoya in Costa Rica, Loma Linda in California.
Ikarian Longevity Stew
1 cup of dried black -eyed peas
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 large red onion
1-2 tomatoes
1 fennel bulb (I put potatoes instead)
2 t spoons tomato paste
garlic, salt pepper to taste, bay leaves, dill.
Boil beans or you can use canned black -eyed beans. In a large pot cook with olive oil garlic, onion, add fennel or potatoes, tomatoes, tomato paste, all spices and canned beans. If you use dry beans add them after onion and garlic saute, and 40 min later- add potatoes or fennel. I made this stew couple days ago, everybody loved it.
