My name is Sarah Sorvillo and I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Certified Herbalist in Des Moines, Iowa.

Midwifery may look like one provider caring for one family, but behind every great midwife is a community of experienced colleagues committed to learning and growing together.

Yesterday, six midwives gathered for lunch and peer review. This is a valuable part of our profession where we discuss challenging cases, share knowledge, and learn from one another. These conversations help us provide safer, higher-quality care while ensuring families benefit from the collective wisdom of many experienced providers, not just one.

Grateful for this group of dedicated women and the opportunity to continually sharpen our skills in service of the families we care for. 🥰

Sometimes birth takes a village, and this was one of those beautiful births. 🤍 This mama found so much comfort being surrounded by her family, friends, and kiddos throughout labor. The room was filled with support, encouragement, and so much love.

While a waterbirth was the original plan, this little one had plans of her own 😉 As labor unfolded, she used different techniques to encourage baby to reposition, including inversions, side-lying, and rebozo work. Birth has a way of asking us to stay flexible and trust the process.

As the final moments approached, she had a small rim of cervix remaining and requested support while pushing. One of my favorite moments of the day was watching her son help catch his baby sister, something he had been hoping to do all along. Farm kids are just built different. ;-) Those are the moments that stay with you as a Midwife.

So grateful to this sweet family for allowing me to witness and share such a special day. ✨

We’ve hired a new Midwife! Meet Rebecca Greene from 🩷 Rebecca is a Licensed Certified Professional Midwife just like Sarah, and is well-versed in natural therapies and the same hands-on type of attention that clients are used to. Rebecca will be helping out with scheduled prenatal appointments to help minimize disruptions in care when the team gets called to a birth. Today is her first day, so give her some love! 🥰

Our birth center received a grant towards a newborn hearing screener! 🩷 A great big thank you to the Adel Lions Club and the Dallas County Foundation for your support in helping us provide an important health screening for babies. This was a big deal as the equipment to perform the screening is extremely expensive. We are now able to provide all routine newborn health screenings including a hearing test. Thank you thank you thank you.🙏🏼

Today I’m smiling because…

A year ago it wasn’t even possible to open a birth center in Iowa. My homebirth practice was busy and blessed and I wondered how I could serve families better while also preventing burnout. I love this job and want to do it as long as I can! I wondered, maybe I need a bigger Midwife team. Maybe I need to get smaller, take less clients. I prayed hard 🙏🏼

And then it happened… the law passed. Birth centers were removed from needing a certificate of need. The monopoly was ended.

I was on my way to pick up Shannon for a birth, and noticed a big beautiful victorian house was for sale in Adel. A month went by and I still could not stop thinking about that house.

Just humor me, I said to my husband 😉 we’ll take a peek and if I don’t like it, then I never have to think about it again! As soon as we were done, he looked at me on our drive home and said are you kidding me, I know you, you’re going to have a baby born in there by December… 😆 The first baby born there was around Christmas time.

God is good and you just never know where he’ll guide you. 💖

💖✨ Our birth suite is finally finished and ready to welcome families. ✨💖

We dreamed of creating a space where moms could feel peaceful, safe, and cared for while giving birth in a cozy, home-like setting—and seeing it all come together feels so special. Every detail was chosen with intention, including our heated birth tub for families who desire the comfort of water, to help moms feel relaxed, and at ease during one of life’s most meaningful moments.

We are beyond grateful for everyone who helped bring this vision to life, and we can’t wait to welcome babies into this beautiful space soon. 🤍
