Our residents take great pride in helping make our community a beautiful and welcoming place through their dedication to gardening. They spend countless hours planting and caring for colorful flowers, fresh vegetables, and greenery that brighten the property and create an inviting atmosphere for everyone. Their hard work not only enhances the appearance of our community but also fosters a sense of pride, connection, and teamwork among neighbors. The gardens are a wonderful reflection of our residents’ commitment to creating a warm, vibrant, and enjoyable place to call home.

Thirty-six years ago, a historic civil rights law protecting the rights of people with disabilities was signed into law. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ensures all people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

Thanks to building codes and guidance from ADA experts, EverTrue has created communities with accessibility planned for people with disabilities, particularly keeping in mind the accommodations that impact older adults most. We even use ADA concepts to improve surroundings and make life more comfortable for our residents without disabilities.

"These accommodations help residents to maintain their independence and preserve their dignity," said Todd Hageman, a registered architect and Director of Capital Planning & Design at EverTrue. "ADA features enable residents to move more freely and use spaces, like bathrooms, more safely. EverTrue has a long history to fall back on when deciding what is needed: we can look at our past building experience to see what works, what doesn't work and what can be improved."

There’s nothing better in the summer than having a cookout. Whether you’re the grill master or you bring a dish to a potluck, these gatherings are a great way to enjoy time with loved ones and stay active.

EverTrue executive chefs know that eating the right foods — foods that support brain and heart health — are the key to making your summer of cookouts fun and healthy. Be sure to include fruits and vegetables on the menu, have some lean protein options and crank up the flavor (but not the calories) with tasty marinades instead of sauces. Try out this recipe for Grilled Alaskan "Slammin' Salmon" from Executive Chef Mark Shoopman (of EverTrue Lutheran Hillside Village): https://ow.ly/yeiB50ZoBXQ

What are your favorite foods at a cookout?

Many older adults want to downsize but they find the process intimidating — and getting started can be overwhelming. Experts at EverTrue have tips for people to help make downsizing easier, including start small (resist the temptation to downsize your whole house at once), make a schedule, and use the “three-sticker” system to label items to keep, to donate and to toss. 📦🚚

Today, our Service Coordinators hosted a fun and educational Protein Smoothie Bar for our residents! Participants learned about the importance of incorporating protein and fruit into a healthy diet while enjoying live demonstrations of several easy and delicious smoothie recipes.
Each resident went home with educational nutrition handouts, the smoothie recipes we made together, a smoothie recipe book, protein powder, and even a blender to continue making healthy smoothies at home!
It was a wonderful afternoon filled with learning, laughter, and great conversation. We love providing opportunities that promote healthy living while bringing our community together!

Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy outdoor activities, but it’s important to remember that too much heat and too much sun is not safe for anyone.

Jha Mitchell, an RN and Director of Nursing at EverTrue Mason Pointe, said that it is important to even monitor yourself when coming back inside because "sometimes you don't get the effects of overheating until much later and you think everything's okay."

Older adults can have fun safely this summer by remembering a few tips:
🫗Stay hydrated
☀️Wear (and reapply) sunscreen
🧢Dress appropriately for the weather
⏲️Limit outdoor activities when temperatures are hottest and,
❄️Finally, when you’re starting to feel too hot, cool off somewhere with air conditioning.

Today is a very special Independence Day, as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Our Union continues to strive to live up to the guarantees made in the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago, including “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

EverTrue shares the same sentiment, the freedom to live Life According to You — with Liberty and a daily pursuit of Happiness.

We wish all our residents, team members and families a Happy Independence Day! 🎆🇺🇸

As leaders in innovative and quality memory care, EverTrue knows firsthand how an earlier diagnosis can expand treatment options for people living with dementia, improving their quality of life and help them maintain independence longer.

While it may be difficult to distinguish between signs of dementia and the mild cognitive changes that are typical as we grow older, there are 10 early warning signs and symptoms of Alzheimer's and dementia that everyone should know. Learn the top warning signs from the Alzheimer’s Association here: https://ow.ly/6vZP50Z9wcv

EverTrue, a longtime partner with the Alzheimer's Association, will be here to help if you or a loved one is facing progressing dementia or other memory impairments.
